The drama around the H/W cards is hilarious.
This is a beautiful digital version, greatly done, to a game most of us already like a lot.
I can't even fathom why this tiny minor change would have such an impact on people. This is not a political stage, we don't care about your view of the world. This is a game you enjoyed, this is a game you'll still enjoy. Nothing changed, the world will not crumble because they changed the name of 2 cards.

It's gonna be alright. Enjoy the game and stop bringing your enclosed view of this world in there. This aint it.

Well said, Fredowz. Giving this game a negative review because of this husband/wife card reason is sad. While I agree that the developers/publishers decision to change these two cards is ridiculous, and should have never happened, it does not detract from this wonderful game at all. The game deserves to be played and enjoyed.

Have a proper award.

Agree, And because some clowns who really need to get some fresh air, the mixed review can turn off some potential buyers, leading to a deserted online on what seems to be a nice adaptation of a great boardgame...

Plus the changes were not made by digital wolves but by the creators of the boardgame, so no need to rant here, if you have something to say, go on the website of the boardgame editor or boardgamegeek.

Well, I guess those who left negative reviews believe the developer made the change politically, so, from their perspective, the devs are the ones making it political by making a change to such an innocuous detail. I think people are fed up with cancel culture and seeing beloved art, film, books, and games censored, especially over something so fundamental as a man and woman.

"I can't even fathom why this tiny minor change would have such an impact on people."

Well, a few reasons actually.
1. The new cards are ugly (in my opinion) as anything compared to the original ones.
2. If this is a "game you enjoyed" as it was... why change it?
3. The new cards feel inserted into the game and don't (in my opinion) really fit into the lore of the rest of the game.
4. Most gamers are not interested in having their hobby turned into a political/cultural battle ground and tend to avoid games that do this.

Whether you agree with people's personal choice or not, these matters do impact on their decision to purchase a product. Go to the reviews on this game and count the number of votes on "Was this review helpful?". Clearly there are many people finding the husband/wife feedback relevant to their decision to purchase Everdell. Some people will not care at all (good for them) and some will choose not to support this game because of the changes (good for them as well). Wow! Imagine that. We live in a world where people can make their own choices based on feedback that some think is tiny and minor, but to others is significant and game breaking. Hooray for diversity of opinion!

I agree. The Husband/Wife cards were some of the cutest in the original game. While changing them won't dictate my decision whether to buy this, it does leave a a sour taste. Providing a more inclusive option is fine, but it would be preferable to have the option to use the original art for those who want it.

The devs indicated that they are following the changes in the most recent printing of the physical board game. But most people who are buying the digital edition will already have the earlier editions, and it's understandable that any changes will stick out.

Personally, I find the tiny portrait-style graphics in the city tableau to be a worse offense.

For those interested I found out that modding the art of the cards isn't difficult. You just need to edit the texture inside the Streaming Assets folder:

Steam\steamapps\common\Everdell\Everdell_Data\StreamingAssets\aa\StandaloneWindows64 ---> card textures are stored in the largest file there

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2842593944

The file I created is on my drive, just download and replace it to change the art: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/19YzgbWJOIJ8KXL51vyxfBqJZ3G9W8wwX?usp=sharing
