Blue hand not retracting

Hi, my sons tried playing this and we’ve had an error very early on. He gets the backpack with the blue hand but when grabbing things with it, it just remains in place and doesn’t retract. He can get as far as a door he needs to slide open and can’t progress as he can’t move it.
Tried restarting game, restarting the PC and even reinstalling the game, same issue. Can anyone advise?

To retract the hand, you need to push the same button you pushed to fire it, a second time.

I believe this error is related to a post I made. in chapter one there is a sliding door that you should be able to open with the blue hand, however the door wont move. its the room with the conveyor belt. and crane on the ceiling about a minute or so into the game...

If the Blue Hand is on an Object and you want to Hand to retract, then click the left button on the Touchpad or Mouse.

So I tried this game on another PC and the blue hand works normal and will pick up things as well as open doors. weird to think its a hardware issue? or maybe its software and i have different drivers installed? Wish i could figure it out! Just to note another thing. when playing the game there are random toys about and the blue hand acts like they are too heavy to move, yet on the working PC the blue hand will drag the toys around without issue!
