Do you think Catnap positioned himself to be stabbed by The Prototype or was it unexpected for him?

There's two ways to view this:
1. I thought this was unexpected, since if you rewatch the scene and look at how the Prototype held out his hand, it looked like he was offering help to Catnap. I've seen many scenes where people outstretch their arm/ hand in the same manner as the Prototype, when someone's in trouble or in need to get back up on their feet. Also with how much faith and trust Catnap has in him after the Prototype saved him once, Catnap would assume and expect that the same thing's gonna happen again. However, the Prototype instead betrays him either out of punishment for failure on Catnap's end or as a method of mercy killing since the Prototype didn't think his action for saving Theodore would have resulted in Theo being turned into Catnap.

OR

2. Like what other people assume, Catnap did sacrifice himself to the Prototype. His cult like worshipping got to his head and he thought that to make one final use of himself, he'd make his body one with the Prototype.

Honestly, there's no wrong way to view this, based on the context we got.

Before Theodore turned into the Catnap, he doesn't have friend except Prototype. He attempted to escape from playcare with Grabpack, but his plan got backfired when he accidentally got electrocuted by lightning green hand. The Prototype saved him from dying, leaving scientists treat him by turning into the Catnap, taking away from Theo's freedom. He continue to worship Prototype and following his orders by kill every employee in this factory while protecting children and execute any experiment who attempt to resist Prototype control's like Dogday.

At the end of boss battle, we shot the overcharged green hand at Catnap, leaving him getting electrocuted and burned alive. When Prototype offer Catnap to be part of him, Theo accept it, giving up his body in order to gain freedom from the factory.

I think there is the clear story line of Theodore and Catnap.

Theo tried to follow Prototype, get a serious accident and saved by Prototype, and losing his freedom when scientists turned him into Catnap.

Catnap continue to follow and worship the Prototype, tried to stop us, but failed, and giving up his body to Prototype in order to gain freedom and end his suffering.

Its possible that catnap sacrificed himself, and knew he was going to die.

But its also been speculated that we hallucinated catnaps death because of the red smoke.

It could be another counselors office case, where there is something blocking him from killing us.

Or he could be intellegent enough t know that making it look like hes dead will make us let our guard down.

but he doesnt know what we are hallucinating,you cant see what other people see so how did he do that?you think he can control hallucinations?

but there isnt any red smoke around him when we see that happen, the red smoke is flammable so thats the whole reason he caught fire. If it was then wouldn't you think that is would have disappated?
