Puzzles are rather boring and easy. Had some annoying bugs throughout my gameplay as well.

The gameplay is fun, but there's too much reading for my liking. The story is fine, the humor is pretty stock, but the most annoying thing is how many dialog breaks there are and how many times you have to press Enter to get to the next piece of dialog. Plus, often you'll get through a cut scene and back to the action--but then the "action" is only walking over to the next screen and then another cut scene starts.

If you like dialogue heavy stories about time manipulation and gameplay revolving around puzzles this game might be your jam. But it wasnt for me.

The puzzle platforming isn't puzzle-platform-y enough. Extremely basic, with tons and tons and TONS of talking.

Rage inducing walking simulator

the platforming parts are all reallly far away
like 90% of this game is walking right or left past repeating bland background on flat terrain
no run or boost of any kind
i can still fix this this, it can be a fun game
lets increase the game speed
the game will not let me change the game speed to play at 3 or 4 times the speed.

Good game but has a loooot of unskippable dialogue.

Short version:
This is the best game you can play that has level design this bad.

Long version:
Let me explain. What Lies in the Multiverse is a game about a boy genius with dreams of traveling between dimensions. After a successful attempt to do it himself, a mysterious man with a tall hat finds him and the boy begs to become his assistant. Their story comes alive with polished pixel art, humorous dialogue, and colorful characters as they travel from beautifully rendered world to beautifully rendered world to advance their "research". Pretty much everything is done right. Good writing, nice music, captivating story, great cast... it all just comes together. It only manages to drop the ball on one little detail:

Gameplay.

It's hard to explain exactly what this is supposed to be. It's not much of a platformer, but that's fine since it's trying to be a puzzler. ...Except it's not much of puzzler, but that's fine since it's trying to be a walking simulator. ...Except it's not much of a walking simulator, but that's fine since it's... oh no.

Here's the issue: The protagonist is slow, can't sprint, can't double-jump, and can't fight, so the platforming isn't good. The focus of the game is instead supposed to be on the puzzles (a "puzzle platformer"), but the puzzles are also not good. Past the start of the game, they become a combination of very easy and very tedious, which you may understand as "the worst thing a puzzle can possibly be". Not to say it doesn't try, it tries. It just fails. The new mechanics introduced in each stage do absolutely nothing to make the puzzles any more fun to solve, making many of the segments between cutscenes a slog. Unfortunately, since these failed puzzle stages take so long, you can't even enjoy the ride as a walking simulator since your enjoyment of the backgrounds is constantly interrupted by whatever the devs think is "fun".

Let me say this again: the worst thing about this game is the level design. Everything about every level feels like it's just there to waste your time and not to present any kind of enjoyment and/or challenge. And want to know the kicker? Random, unmarked points of no return. There's collectibles in each stage, but if you walk the wrong way in some segments, you will be caught in an automatically-saving trap with no way to get back without restarting the entire chapter. Thought those puzzles were annoying the first time? Try doing them again because you missed something.

In the end, the main reason to play through this game is the story and cutscenes, but because that's pretty much the whole experience, this game appeals the most to a specific demographic: those who were drawn in by my second paragraph, but would also feel bad if they just watched it on Youtube or Twitch. If you don't have any qualms about watching the game for free, I would highly advise you to do that and not bother actually buying or playing this.

Another way to put it:
This is the most polished and garnished turd in the museum.
