What are the particle swarms you find in some entropy rifts?

Title.

In a few spots in entropy there are some light particles swarming above platforms. They look kinda similar to the 'chaos particles' that gather around you from that one skill in the chaos skill tree but instead of purple they are more yellow/white. When you interact with them (with shoulder button i believe) they follow you until you reach a rift and then disappear through the rift.

I already finished the game but this thing struck me as peculiar and I never could figure it out. I don't think it interacted with enemies or something.

Those things are bad in that they're not explained.

If you walk up to them and click r2 (The use button), they'll begin whirling around your character and follow you.
If you then manually walk with them to a tear, they'll transform into Entropy for upgrading skills.
