Is this basically a Salt and Sanctuary sucessor?
Was a really big fan of Ska Studio's Salt and Sanctuary. The second game in the salt series went in a direction I didn't exactly care for. Would I be wrong to assume this game is trying to pick up where Sanctuary left off. I see a boss from S&S is making a return in this game as well. What is the connection between the two and your experience with the title so far?

it's a great game. if you liked S&S you'll probably enjoy this. They are different in a lot of ways though. The combat is much simpler in this game, there are less metroidvania type of upgrades and mechanics but there is a map which is a welcome change from S&S. I think S&S is a better game with more replay value, but this game is still very good and worth playing.

This game has a boss from SnS.

That should answer your question 😉
That's one of my biggest issues with this game. Salt and sanctuary came out almost a decade before it and is way cheaper and far better. I agree with not liking the direction for SnS 2 and I got over hyped for Mandragora. But in reality it's just okay, I think if it was 25 bucks I wouldn't be nearly as disappointed/frustrated at the game

i honestly am somewhat flummoxed by how little successors to salt and sanctuary there have been; there's been loads upon loads of 3d Dark souls genre games, but there's only a few actual salt and sanctuary style ones that I can think of that aren't just metroidvanias instead (Vigil for example).

Yeah, pretty much I think. I feel like the devs loved S&S, then set out to make one, but better. So much so that you have the same boss as an easter egg in this game.
