Check the notable that makes your poison damage to an extra 30% chaos damage. Its possible that chaos damage is boosted by power, but i dont have it open in front of me to check. If something is boosted by the power stat it will show a purple lightning looking icon.
Looking at the 30% chaos damage node ont he nightshade tree, there doesnt seem to be an indication of what scales it, so we can assume that it still just scales with dexterity, and scaling the poison damage will also scale the 30% as extra chaos by default.
So it seems that if you want poison to be your main damage type, then you will need to scale dexterity.
You can however use it well in a power scaling build. Using the dark focus and nether blades nodes will give you some nice power scaling bonuses, and you can use dark venom to apply weakness, which in turn kind of boosts your chaos damage.
You can take the nodes just to the right of dark venom to head into the spellbinder tree and grab unstable trail and motes of chaos, then also maybe unstable burst. Then just focus on boosting poison chance, dex and power, in whatever order you want (make sure you boost vigor, health and stamina as well).
There are some nice dexterty and power scaling daggers in the game. So it could be a fun build.
And if you had the points or patience you could head into flaemweaver aswell and see if you can make it to controlled explosion, molten strikes, warriors might and fury.
Now that im saying it, i actually kind of want to do it myself too... guess i have my next playthrough idea :D
