Armor stat bonuses, Passive nodes in the skill tree, upgrading active skills, Enchanting weapons/armor,...etc.

Yeah the castle after the vampire boss has a strange spike in difficulty. I suggest you turn down the enemy damage for that area by 30% if you don’t want to grind for stats just to survive.

Never had to grind anything to progress in this game, but to each their own.
I sort of ran into what you ran into. I just farmed the plate set from the Knights in the Vamp Castle which made me really tanky. Then I got one of the Draco knights in the snow area to drop a sword with S scaling in strength. It has been easy mode ever since.

The only farming I have done was certain enemies that had weapons/armor I wanted to try. The Bestiary is really good for finding out an enemies loot pool.

Yeah I just got a piece to drop from the flame knights so time to farm those bad boys.
By the end of the game, I had a 1 handed sword that was giving me magical crit chance and 25 crit damage. The runestone on it pushed the scaling of power to S+, which made the sword nearly 400 damage, which stacked nicely with my on hit effects (Exploding attacks primarily.) sometimes resulting in hits upwards to 2.7 to 3k damage. Mandragora is more about skill combinations than weapon upgrades, but adding the right rune to the weapon, makes a big difference.

100%, this is why I say people need to treat character progression and power progression like a aRPG and not like a souls game where one stat stick is upgraded in a linear fashion.

Just craft the next set of weapons. If you level the blacksmith, tailor etc, they will get new recipes in addition to the ones you find. These new items are better than the tier below. Its not a hard system to learn.
