What's the deal with Denuvo, why is it bad? I've bought games before that had Denuvo, I didn't knew it's something wrong with it.
"Don't ever, ever try to lie to the internet - because they will catch you. They will de-construct your spin. They will remember everything you ever say for eternity.'
You can see really old school companies really struggle with that. They think they can still be in control of the message."

Denuvo implemented games rely on 3rd party DRM server to generate authorization tokens in order for the games to be launchable(forced online authorization). These tokens are expirable and can be break under circumstances(reinstalling/update OS/driver,switching Proton(Linux), changing hardware) render the games useless.
The tokens won't be automatically acquired by themselves, you need to launch the games in online mode for them to be acquired.
The tokens can only be acquired for a limited number of times(usually 5)per 24 hours, once you reach the limit for whatever reason, you will be blocked out of your games, and will need to wait until the next day to be able to "activate" the game again. You need to ask for permission to play the game you paid for.
You can play Denuvo implemented games in offline mode, but it won't be indefinitely.
In fact you can't play the games at all if there's no token or for some reason it's cannot a token(server outage) regardless of whether you're online or offline.

TLDR
Denuvo erodes customers'ability to play the games they paid for without any restrictions, to have reliable, unrestricted access to their games, free from factors that are outside of their control.

And here's some nightmare fuels : despite the minority number of Denuvo implemented games, not many of them either still have players or keeping a decent/good players count, not all player play Denuvo implemented games, not all of them have a massive player counts, we don't have big Denuvo implemented games with massive player count all the time(only few of them managed to do so), and the total number of player who play these game is very very small fraction of steam total player counts, yet we keep GETTING REPORT OF CASES WHERE DENUVO BLOCK PLAYERS FROM PLAYING THE GAMES THEY PAID, REGARDLESS OF HOW BIG OR SMALL THE TITLES ARE, OR HOW MANY THEM ARE RELEASED AT THE TIME.
Good thing only a minority of games are using it, would be a absolutely disaster if that was never the case.

Thx for the explanation, yeah I see why this is bad now!

Steam games with TAGES DRM can no longer be played, TAGES went defunct.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is no longer playable on my steam account, and was removed from the store after I bought it.
well, per their discord post, the DRM is "temporary, not permanent."

so if this is a really big deal to y'all (it should be,) then wait until they rid of it and buy the game on a sale. demonstrate that an early purchase, and a full price purchase is not worth it for games that do things like this. particularly for those of you who backed a kickstarter project without knowledge that things like this would be added.
nah, hard skip xD #1 on my wishlist, but giving us denuvo just before launch....that should be disallowed

Clumsy Day 1 buyers are the reason prices on new games keep hiking up. Serves them right to get Denuvo and all the bugs, but they end up hurting everyone else when no one can afford the game.
They about to lose more sales than they thought they were going to gain by adding denuvo hilarious

They got money from 'kickstarter' so they dont care

It might not even be that simple.
denuvo not thrilled.
Was already skeptical with the price and early-purchase nonsense.
I'll check in now and then to see when its dropped.
Every gamer ever knows DRM is worse for the game in question. I don't understand why developers add this in, only then to be mocked and have the game go down the toilet and then they ask themselves "what could we have done better?" It's as if no developer actually listens to the gaming community.

I was about to buy this. It comes out one day before my birthday and I really REALLY wanted to play it. I missed my chance to back it and now, I am glad I did.

I have never had a good experience with ANY game that has had DRM incorporated into it, this is why I have such a strong standpoint AGAINST DRM.

I might not buy it on launch... maybe... a year or 2 after it's actually out I'll grab it or I'll search the internet and get a cheap copy of it, sure that will happen quickly.

DRM = another game removed from my wishlist that I really wanted.

I am not here to cause any disagreements, just sharing my opinion on DRM!

The money addiction program creates altered thinking and causes a severe form of blindness and they can't see beyond the addiction. Money, money, money.

The more of life you see, the more you start realizing it's one big unquenchable disease run by a mafia.
