IMO this type of detail is what makes the game fun. You need to do some work and some micromanagement to finally equip that awesome armor set. This gives more satisfaction, when it was difficult to achieve. If the games give you everything too easily, without any challenge, the game loses appeal.
If not, it may pay off to start as the class with the most carry capacity, and then later respec out of that class' skilltree, since you will get much more carry capacity by default, regardless of where you put your skillpoints.
This isn't "that awesome armor set", it's the basic leather gear dropped by some of the first enemies you encounter.
