The playable female avatar in the demo isn't appealing at all. Everything about her is masculine enough that she should be sporting a full beard. She could donate testosterone.

Don't get me wrong, I actually quite like what I played, as did my wife. The game itself is fun. We will probably purchase it when it releases.

We just don't get how the recent trend of the past several years of portraying strong women in games means making them manlier than most men. If anything it's so overused and cliche at this point that it's a parody.

Just to get ahead of the inevitable comments about incels needing every female in video games to be sex symbols etc, etc, a discussion with my wife is what inspired this post. She tried the demo first and was disappointed with the character's design. As shocking as it may seem, it appears that women prefer their female characters to be feminine.

We've discussed this in the past, at length. She believes it is far more inspiring to see a female character that is beautiful, strong, brave and heroic in spite of their femininity. In fact, she feels insulted that most games of today seem to insinuate that in order to be strong, female characters need to be as masculine as possible. I didn't even notice this trend until she pointed it out a few years ago.

I can completely understand where she's coming from. This problem isn't inherent to video games alone, of course, but all modern media. If the media contains a strong female lead they will inevitably be masculine to the point of caricature, or obese and obscenely ugly. They either have a jawline that could cut glass, bulging muscles that would be impossible for a woman without steroids and a face that only a blind mother could love, or they could cosplay as the michelin man and have a face that only a blind mother could love.

I'm not here to start a debate. Honestly, I'm mostly just venting. My wife and I love playing games together. It's just disheartening to see her so disillusioned and let down by the female characters in most games. In her words, it's extremely off putting being forced to play as an ugly man masquerading as a woman whenever she plays a game.

I'm not calling out this game in particular, this just happened to be the most recent game that we discussed. In fact, I'm not really even here to discuss the topic at all and the discussion board for this game is hardly the correct venue. I just wanted to put her views on the situation out there somewhere. This just seemed to be a decent enough place to do so.

We're both in our 40's now. Maybe we're just too old for whatever weird direction modern media is heading. If anyone actually reads this entire post I'm sorry for my rant. It just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks to see my wife's enthusiasm for our favorite hobby dampened to such a degree. We've enjoyed playing games together since before we were married, it's probably not a stretch to say that gaming is one of the main reasons we've maintained such a good relationship. Hell, we were friends as children and played the nes together in the 80's.

Rant over, have a great day.

Thank you for the feedback.

It's not easy to find a balance between realism and fantasy and also not easy to create art to everyone's liking. There are many practical reasons for character designs in games besides appealing to tastes however. For example, for a small team like us, it's helpful to have unisex armor and weapon designs.

Thank you for acknowledging my post.

As I said, this wasn't a complaint about your game in particular. Rather this was a statement on the concerning state of the medium.

Feel free to lock this thread.

But I don't. So why not to make happy both of us making one sound and face of woman for me (feminine) and one for you (manly)? Same for male character.

get used to it, unless it's an asian game you won't see any beautiful women anymore
The witch girl is feminine, as well as tailor and jeweler. I guess, they only hire masculine enough people to the inquisition.

Since you are here for venting I'll do the same.
I'm absolutely sick and tired of people like you , hiding behind their imaginary wives or children (as if) so you can complain about character customization or whatever else you dont like about the game. I don't give a rats ass about your wife, I don't want character customization.

Reason being, a customized character will not, under any circumstances have a set story. He/she/it will always be a shadow, an afterthought. If I wanted to have my own adventure I'd go out and do it, I wanna follow the adventure of a set character with his own morals and views and choices, i dont want to 'imagine', imagining is for books. I dont want the many 'what if' endings either, I'm sick of them.
I want a good story mfs, and it is NOT possible for a good story to be told through the eyes of an avatar character.

The opinion of a character with level 5 Steam and zero games is very important to everyone (no). Don't have enough imagination to create your own character? Don't play games. Go live your life in your own country
So this game.. is woke garbage after all? Hell why.. why idiots devs keep destroying their beatifully crafted fantasy worlds to appeal to nobody.. You devs do realize nobody cares about your ugly women? You got fooled by sweet baby inc cohorts, played you like a fiddle so you pay them for their services. This scam has already been known and still devs keep falling into that trap.

I knew something is off about demo. King priest is white male (evil ofc), your friend you meet is n1gga giant woman and second one you meet is a woman swordsdman. Hell really non-breaking immersion at all, I would expect a woman as a swordsman and not a man, men ain't known to be knights in established middle ages-like fantasy genre.

Please stop this idiotism.

I've been forced to play ugly white men in video games my entire life and never complained. Why are you people so spoiled and entitled?

Your stupidity is astounding. First you try to shame me for not playing enough (being 5 lvl) and then you tell me to go and then to go and live my life...in my own country, whatever the fak that means papasmurf.
And about imagination, like I already said if if wanted to use it I'd read a book, not play a video game you mongoloid.
