Dying Curse in the Volcano
In the secret area where Karon warns you not to go further because it's super dangerous, there are floating swords that cast Dying Curse on you, which instantly reduces your hit point to 1. They do this repeatedly! I'm at the end of the game and I was going back to explore this section before trying to fight who I assume is the final boss.

Is there an item or any way to avoid dying in here?

You can just avoid attacking those Death Knight enemies. It's not the swords that cast it. It's the knights in jet black armor that stand still. Striking them is what causes them to use "Dying Curse".

i recommend you rush them down to avoid the dying curse because theres no way to prevent it otherwise, however that specific area is the only one i take more time to go through due to how dangerous the enemies are in comparison of the other optional areas such as legions road(best exp farming location since they give avg of 12-21k exp with the most optimal farming gear if you pump most of your points into luck)

Who cares about getting set to 1 hp when you just don't get hit?
Seriously, enable Berserk and tear through those enemies without ever worrying about your hp. The dying curse does not count as damage, so those enemies will be completely useless (and you'll get triple attack damage as well, which is very nice).

Yeah don't those enemies only cast it when you hit them? you can take out the undead knights with shields and flying swords separate, but if you hit the anubis like enemies and don't finish the job they will keep casting it on you. So as Moyai mentions kill them straight away. Either that or be a bit more strategic by killing them while they are on their own or by taking out other enemies first, if you do hit them then deal with them immediately, when ready to tackle that area you should be able to deal enough damage to kill them before they have a chance to cast.

So, I was able to get past them by using arrows (to kill them all from a distance). For those of you asking if they only cast it when you hit them, no--they cast it even if I hadn't attacked. Now I'm trying to figure out how to not die in the arena for the Tokyo Cup when they show up. Thanks everyone!

For me they only started casting once they were attacked / hit so not sure whats going on there. Hence why they seemed to be relatively easy to deal with.

You can cheese that area as early as chapter 3. You just pump MAG and spam arrows with the crossbow and if necessary a vigaya or two. You can technically do the same thing in chapter 2's optional area too but the boss is significantly harder because it requires you to actually dodge and bait the boss a bit. If you can pull it off the rewards are great.
