Demo before normal game?
Hi,

I just bought this but the game said I should try the demo if I wanted to test the combat. Is the demo part of the main game - the option you can select from the main menu - should i play it before starting the normal game? i.e. is there extra terms of content, worldbuilding/plot, character development etc.

Or is that content in the main game ?

Thanks.

demo is like: here is everything the game has to offer GOOO

you will not know what alot of stuff does... you have choices you doint get. and you learn kinda nothing.

you can skip the demo and just play

i would recommend to NOT play the demo.

Thanks. I'm just interested in getting all the content from the game in the proper order. I wasn't sure if the demo was like a separate chapter with its plot, levels etc, or just bits and pieces already in the main game.

The demo option from the main menu is kind of a mishmash of content from various parts of the game. It covers the first like 5 screens of the main game normally and then starts going wild with where it is pulling content (enemies, locations) from. There is a little relevance to the story but it's completely not needed to understand and enjoy the main story. If you don't play the demo, you aren't missing anything. That said, it is also pretty short so you might as well give it a try.
The demo is also extremely easy, probably it is set to the lowest difficulty and you also get some really strong gear (up to chapter 3 gear iirc), so if you are going to use it to judge the game, keep that in mind. In the demo, you barely take any damage. If you were to play on one of the harder difficulties, you can die in a couple hits. Progress in the demo does not carry over to when you start the game proper.

Cheers. Sounds as if it's something I should skip then as it spoils content from the main game. As I say I wasn't sure if it was its own self contained chapter that gave extra context to the main game, or just a selection of bits from the main game itself. Someone said it takes place in a 'dream' which suggested it was its own little story.

Well, it's not like it spoils any of the story but you might go "oh yeah, that enemy was in the demo" or "this screen was in the demo".

I actually realise later that funny enough the Demo seems set on the difficulty of the last save you've played on, so if the last save you played on was on Impossible the Demo will be on Impossible, so I assume at the beginning with no save it's set on Easy.

That said the Demo has actually some story implication and foreshadowing, but upon booting this game if you never played the Free version of Astlibra and free version of Gaiden (which probably no western player did), this implication and foreshadowing will be entirely miss, resulting in the Demo having absolutly no sense story wise.....

TLDR Skip the Demo it's not worth it and will mostly confuse you both on gameplay and story.

100% agreed. Skip demo.
