I am in the post game, and trying to get the weapon he gives for this. I have all Karon aside from the last one, and I sold my old armor and weapons in the main story. Do I need all the armors and weapons in my inventory for him to give me the weapon?

Hm, good question. Are you sure you had all Equipment mastered? Might want to double-check with one of the guides.
But he DOES ask you to show him every weapon, shield and armor you can find. If the mastery alone is not what is checked for the quest, but instead the possession of equipment, you might be in a bit of trouble.
