Game Stuttering
Anybody else has this issue? The game stutters and runs at extremely low fps, like 15, or something.

I have the original and that did the same for me. I'm wondering if getting this version would help with this problem?

Bought this and there is no stuttering for me. Works good.

Funny part is that I used to have the original, too. And I've never had any stuttering with it. LMAO

Im using a really old laptop, built in 2007 with windows 7 plays perfect. Newer desktop way over min requirements and it stutters whenever text shows up

Mine also get extremely lag every time I hover anywhere have the text boxes show up.

Every asset loading, every action you take, everything you can do causes this mess to clonk out a stutter.

If you are still having the issue I posted how to fix

Thank you very much. I've tried the fix and while it helps during the gameplay, the game still stutters whenever any window is opened, including dialog windows.

No problem. I'm sorry It does not work entirely you may have to play around with dgvoodoo some more or poke around with the compatability settings some more depending on your system.

I finally have the game running smoothly, at my screen's native 1920x1080,
without the dialogue and textbox fps-drop/slowdown/stutter. 🌟

The solution by @Rogal is kind of correct, but not complete.

Lets tackle the widescreen fix first:

  1. Navigate to your steamapps\common\Prince of Qin folder and make a backup of Poq.exe
  2. Go to https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/1699-prince-of-qin-fov-fix/, download the archive, navigate to your language and your native screen resolution's folder.
Use "pcgw" (without quotes) to unlock the archive's files.
  3. Replace the steam folder's Poq.exe with the one you choose from the archive.

Now let's tackle the stutteringly slow dialogue/textbox issue:

  1. Go to https://github.com/dege-diosg/dgVoodoo2/releases and download dgVoodoo 2
Its version may have changed by the time you read this guide
  2. From the dgVoodoo2 archive, drag and drop dgVoodooCpl.exe and dgVoodooCpl.conf into the steamapps\common\Prince of Qin folder.
  3. From the MS/x86 folder in the dgVoodoo2 archive, drag and drop all files inside into the steamapps\common\Prince of Qin folder.
  4. Start Voodoo2Cpl.exe and make sure the Config folder is indeed pointing to the game folder, where you should have put the dgVoodooCpl.conf file.
  5. General Tab - As far as I can tell, leave it at the default settings.
Don't change it to windowed unless you follow the OPTIONAL step in (9.)
  6. Glide Tab - Uncheck the 3Dfx Watermark. Death to watermarks.
  7. DirectX Tab - Change Videocard to dgVoodoo Virtual SVGA Card and VRAM to 128MB
  8. DirectX Tab - Change Resolution to Desktop
  9. DirectX Tab - OPTIONAL - Uncheck Application controlled fullscren/windowed state
  10. DirectX Tab - Uncheck Disable Alt-Enter to toggle screen state
This is useful to quickly force the game to fullscreen if it hops into windowed.
Windowed gameplay is...not good, and your mouse position is invisibly offset and stuttery.
  11. DirectX Tab - Uncheck dgVoodoo Watermark. Screw. Watermarks.
  12. Hit apply, and hopefully the game should work now. 🎉

Final notes:
- You can hit the "+" button a bunch of times to speed up the game a little.
- I also set the ingame resolution to its highest: 1024x768
- Sometimes, if your configuration is different, dgVoodoo will "cage" your mouse into the top-left area of the screen, despite visuals being still centered.
- Remember the now useful Alt-Enter shortcut.
