However, there are some challenges posted for the games (Speed runs, Nuzlockes etc.)
https://legendcup.com/challenges.php
Even though the original can can use physical CDs, and any of them, it’s wear and tear on hardware, plus there’s a smaller pool of monsters and there’s only a handful of variants in the original. So there’s a massively larger amount of CDs to check and less to actually get. If you’re playing on emulation, then you’re probably not actually using that feature anyway or you’re using Make-A-Monster or cheat-coding your monster anyway.
In DX almost every monster has at least 1 extra (some have 6 extra) variants + Enemy & Boss monster. And the built in CDDB makes it easier to summon what you want.
Achievements don’t make or break the game. And because it is cross-platform compatible it’s difficult to implement to Switch and iOS. DX is an improvement in many more ways than not over the original, but It’s your choice to play the version you like best.
There’s good stuff and tools for both games. The majority of the community is playing DX and it opens up a lot more people to play tournaments with as well. Instead of arbitrarily hating on the game just because it lacks Steam achievements, get it and play with the rest of us 😀
Imagine giving up lots of QoL improvements and limiting your monster list because it doesn’t have achievements.
Genuinely don’t understand you people.
That's a shame, there's quite a few folks[discord.gg] that are enjoying the game, holding active tournaments, streaming nuzlocke challenges, playing multiple versions of the game, developing mods, for original and DX alike.
Heck, despite owning the originals and now DX on switch I'd totally rebuy it JUST for playing on steam deck if it had achievements to justify starting over.
Yes, I'm that shallow lol.
I use to be a HUGE fan of Azure Dreams, a PS1 game by Konami is such a good game it would bring tears to your eyes. I wonder if communities like this exist for that game still to this day
They're doing just fine without your $40 lol. If achievements are your deciding factor in buying a game, then you're not going to enjoy the game anyway and it probably isnt worth your time. You're not playing for the game itself, so there's no point.
