Digital CD thoughts
bought this sight unseen did not know you could just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ monsters out of thin air. Anyone else feel like they are missing a huge opportunity by connecting this to a steam library scan or at least having that be an option.

Having access to 664,909 titles that really only points to 700 / 1218 total variants of 201/415 (mr1/mr2) playable monsters?

Probably don’t need the extra complication just for the shrine gimmick
Skoll Jan 3, 2022 @ 8:10pm
not really what I remembered from ps1 days requested a refund to each their own
monsterfenrick Jan 3, 2022 @ 8:17pm
To each their own I suppose. If the gimmick is the thing that did it for you. Even the original game’s CD function was solved. This is an elegant solution to replace a 40 year old technology without altering much on the dev side.

There’s definitely some QoL improvements over the original that make playing this version a better experience imo.

Ah well, enjoy your refund.

I personally don't think anything is missing tbh. Yes going amd finding cds and trying them out to find qhat you get was very coool. But it was also massivly time consuming, I got tons of duplicates (skipper haunts me, so many skippers) i basicly had no golem / worm / tiger / jell / zuum cds, and god I hated going through the whole process of getting the cd, swaping disc, reading the data, swapping back and it just saying we regret to inform you or a duplicate mon. Scanning steam library is cool in theory but in reality its basicly exactly the same as what we got. The only difference is you are arbitrarily limited.

As someone who used the emulator before this came out, i stopped using the cd thing very quickly and just imported roms instead. Which is basicly the same as this. So hey if you want the ps1 experience l, play the emulator and do cds (assuming you have a cd drive, many do not anymore). Or use roms of games you own.

Personally i find nothing to be missing with what we have. I actually think its a super smart way to suit almost everyone.

Want to use cds? Only look up cds you own and use those.
Want specific mons? Use the fansite amd get the specific song for the spefic mon you want.
Want the suspense and random monster experience? Use the random feature. Its all I use. I love just hittin random over and over to see what I get. It scratches the cd itch and im seeing monsters I never ever saw or would have seen using cds

STeam titles are modern games.
Monster Rancher 2 didn't use modern games back then.

They still really don't. Unsure of the stupid complaint here.

Having only your Steam library to spawn off of would be hilariously limiting. They'd likely have to do a complete rewrite of what monsters spawn what considering most games on Steam never existed back then and a lot of the monsters were spawned by music cd's that most people don't have the option of using anymore due to lack of cd rom drives on many modern PCs.

It's just a weird take, really. I don't think a lot of thought was put into how punishing it would be to only have access to spawning via Steam library.

As an above poster said, nothing is stopping you from only spawning monsters from cd's and game titles you own if that's the way you want to go about it. Or just sticking to random, which was basically how trying out your CD collection back in the day felt.

For someone who apparently bout this"sight unseen" you sure seem to know exactly how the monster summoning feature works from the prior PS1 game otherwise, you wouldnt have made this post comparing it to that... yikes

troll post, move along

I assume he meant blind on the remake. Not monster hunter as a whole

I always felt like the CD stone system they used was kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, because it relied on having physical CDs in order to be able to access monsters.

Should the players just have access to everything? No, I don't feel like they should, but I am unsure how you'd go about replacing this feature in a meaningful way, because it would still come down to actual ownership of things in order to unlock some monsters.

You could do a keyword list or something, but then the keyword list is just going to get published and that's just the same thing with extra steps.

I would never agree to something as insane as monster unlocks being tied to your steam library. I would actually protest any developer who did this until the day I died.

Maybe they could have designed a system in which you took images and had them scanned for data? I think that'd work great for awhile, until someone just uploaded the entire database of monsters to a website. Once again, you're just adding extra steps.

Personally, having to earn them in game, like battling them out in the wild would have probably been the best route to go. That or have a monster market that sells a limited selection of monsters that rotates every 24 hours, making you have to collect them that way.

Honestly, if they had went with the CD method, I wouldn't even be mad. I have a CD drive.

You lost me at not being able to have access to everything. There's no legitimate reason to just not give everyone access to every monster many times over. People are complaining about non-issues simply because they want their own little added difficulty, which is just stupid.

Yes there is, because when you have access to everything, there's nothing but grinding to do. It's a game play element.

Calling people stupid just makes you look like a see you next Tuesday.

Limiting access that people have to monsters simply because they don't own thousands of games is honestly pretty stupid. Arguing that point makes you look stupid.

The game is a grind no matter what. Whether you have access to all monsters or just one monster.

lol not a wasted opportunity, they did this so everyone could enjoy any monster they want without spending more money. what a dumb thing to be upset about

"I like having content locked away that I can't get access to without spending IRL money on a different game which I may never play."

Ooof.
