Well, I suppose I could just refund the game and go back to playing the better version. Some of the choices they made with this port are baffling.
Use this at the shrine:

I think meat helps a lot with life span
Meat gives one week.
That sounds like rumors to me. None of the official sources have said such a thing exists and if it did, it would be incredibly overpowered.

My playstyle of playing MR2 is mainly raising their stats to be optimal for combining so that I can get a OP version of whatever monster I like regardless of their lifespan
for example one of my favorite monster is Hare/Gali which has a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ lifespan of just 380 weeks but I raised my hare/??? and gali/hare so that they combine into an OP hare/gali

The late game fun in MR2 in my opinion is in raising monsters for them to be optimal in combining. If anyone is interested theres an old guide from Gamefaqs that still works

In Monster Rancher 1, meat definitely extends life by 1 week.
It's not an infinite cycle since you can only really give it once every 4 weeks but it's the way to go with your future battling monsters.
I have not noticed a shorter lifespan in Monster Rancher 2 yet myself, but I am only just got to year 4 on the Switch version with a Pixie/Plant right now.
Dying in a year isn't because of the game, you just don't know how to raise the monsters properly.
