Not sure how hard it is for the developers to at least get the arrow keys to fire while you move around on WSAD. Looked like the "in game" settings said it was going to be that way but the arrow keys weren't working for me firing "in game". I got the mouse to fire but aiming the widow is another story because she don't turn with the mouse.
I have many game pads and controllers for PC.. not one of them is compatible as a console controller and none I had will work for the game as default. I have to make them work that way. PC controllers are a little different than console controllers. I like the macros.. I love the digital or analog capability. I like the mapping. In the end, I did have one game pad that allowed me to map the keyboard to it... for movement. The game pad also has a digital and analog mode. When I leave everything as default... set the pad for analog... nothing works on the game pad EXCEPT the two sticks... Once the first stick was mapped, the firing with the other stick came as default it seems.. and this worked for the game no problem.
If that hadn't worked I would have moved on to third party mapping... I didn't have to. I had the hardware and could adapt (as others here in this thread could)... I believe we're special cases. Most people are plug 'n' play casual players. They just want it to work. They don't want to go into settings... and then disable Steam input for controllers.. then set their own profile through whatever mapping software they're using.. blah blah. A portion of the players don't know how and the rest don't want to bother. It amounts to the player needing software to play with another software.
I love seeing the remake of these old cabinet arcade games. I picked up Missile Command, Centipede, Tempest, among others and I'll likely pick up Asteroids when it comes out. Keep them coming..
I initially had issues setting controls for PC with all these games as described by others here in the thread. If the developers don't address the issue with control on PC then it's going to be reflected in a small community for these games on PC...
Loved by a few is still "loved" I guess...
