Bridge falling? Collapsing?
Apparently they have made many changes but when I moved that steam valve and the bridge fell I was like WTF?

Likely just a fun little thing for the demo to let you know you can't go to that island since its restricted to Temple Island. :lunar2019coolpig:

In the original, the bridge had already fallen, and the pipe was already in the state you cause it to collapse into upon turning the valve. You're never meant to cross that bridge, but here you get to see what happened to it in high fidelity.

Most people are expecting it to stay in the full release.

I was also quite surprised, when I blew up the bridge... as this is my first time playing Riven (or any game of the series) - it it possible to accidentally block the advancement, or is something like the falling bridge always "part of the show"? Just to know how long I have to think before pulling a random lever :steamhappy:

There is a Riven Demo livestream, announced here for the duration of Steam's Next Fest, and it is unclear to me if it will be still available after June 17. In this livestream, two Cyan developers play the demo and mention that if you make this bridge collapse, then this will be mentioned in one of Gehn's journals that you will find later in the full game. Thus it probably is not just something added for the demo only.

I only found out this remake exists an hour ago and gave the demo a try.
I sad that I couldn't experience this game for the very first time like this - but then I realized: They changed quite a bit and added / changed puzzles, - so even though I played the original mutliple times, I STILL get to play this game (almost) like it was the first time.
I'M SO HYPED!

Hmm, is there no playback of the livestream after it finished? Just continuous loading for me
For me, it runs on an endless loop, after opening the drop down labeled "NOW BROADCASTING: WATCH THE DEVELOPER PLAY". Here is a direct link which might work better for you.

Edit: The livestream recording is now available on YouTube: Let's Play The Riven Demo with Cyan's Harrison Pink and Claire Hummel

not even remotely true. in the original the bridge is fully functional and you even have to use the lever to power it, and another lever on the bridge itself to lower it- which in the original accesses the upper layers of the dome rather than the lower layer.

i feel like one of 2 things happened in your comment:
1. you are just straight up trolling, and maybe didnt even play the original
2. you vaguely remembered the steam coming from the pipe and mis-remembered the rest based on that fact (the steam does come from the top when the lever is off even in the original)

Even though the bridge fell, the shadow stayed in place.

This ^^^ Thank you for writing that up.
Although, the bridge accessing the lower/upper level/fire marble puzzle I was on the other side of the dome, not the long bridge side. It was in-between the rotating room and the dome, the lever to access the firemarble puzzle was just inside the dome after the that bridge.

the dome has 3 floors. the fire marbles is the top floor, i was talking about the bridge accessing the middle floor. although i guess the one your talking about can technically reach both the marbles and the middle floor. the lever to power the long bridge is on the lower floor as it is in the demo and the original, and the lever to actually lower it once powered is on the bridge itself after crossing the bridge.

I can't help feeling that the bridge should collapse from the end nearest you, since presumably trying to lower the drawbridge is what's caused the collapse. When I saw it collapse from the other end first, it felt wrong to me.

But I may well be wrong.

I interpreted that as the whole bridge shaking itself apart like the Tacoma Narrows collapse. The end nearest you is relatively well supported, whereas the rest of the bridge is on spindly little stilts.
