Yes, although dont be ashamed if you have to look up something that you just didnt know you could click on. Both the original Riven, and the remake to some extent, are known for having a few things that are missed simply because people dont think to click on them. As for the actual puzzles, stick with it, if you havent already! If you need help, there are a few of us here who would be glad to offer some spoiler-free hints!

I finished the original back in the day without a guide. Took a while, but I did it. And then my memory was enough to get me through the remake.

Yes, but I had the unfair advantage of having played the original. Coming into this already knowing D'ni numbers, for instance, is a pretty big advantage, even if I didn't remember exact solutions to any puzzles that mattered.

Also I think it might have been harder to get truly lost in the original, as pixel hunting is a bit more feasible on static screens as opposed to full roam, and if you look carefully around the edges of a screen the fact that there are exits indicated is a huge tipoff in a lot of places.

how to go to Prison Island?

Light spoiler hint: There is a much different method of getting there that does not require you to visit Gehn in his private Age first (meaning you do not have to solve the fire marble puzzle first).

Bigger spoiler hint: However, it does still involve the fire marbles. Have you been inside one yet?

Solution: You must enter the Starry Expanse through a fire marble, and then connect the center rotation device to the only other bridge that is already extended when you first enter.

We had another user who thought he was missing the prison fire marble as well, but it was actually a different one. He figured out which one he was missing by looking in the golden dome. You can trace the missing marble to the island that its from like this:

The symbol on the window is for the corresponding island, and you can usually tell which island it is simply by looking through the window as well.

NO way. The game was difficult for many non-Mensa members, of which I am certainly one :-)
I used the DLC-guide once or twice (which frankly, mostly wasn't helpful and which I wasted $$ on). Got the answers I needed...and the pushes or guidance...mostly here, from among these discussion boards. And one online walkthrough. NO way I would have been able to complete the game...or enjoy it,frankly...without guidance.

Even if you cant tell which island it is by looking out the window, you can still see the symbol for the island in the window itself. Line up the center rotation device in the starry expanse with the dome that corresponds to that symbol, because that is the one that has the fire marble that you still need to charge.

so i'm missing a dome. i have the big dome, the dome in the jungle, the dome on crystal island and the one in the boiler.

You can only reach the dome for the prison island from inside the Starry Expanse. The bridge is already extended, so simply connect it from the center rotation device and head across.
