Unable to enter game with PSVR2; black screen, stuck loading

Hello! Have been playing the game for a little while and recently picked up the PSVR2 PC adapter (it's in stock on Amazon). Other titles like Half Life: Alyx play beautifully but Riven just... sits there on a black screen, or it endlessly shows the hand-writing-in-a-book loading animation. Additionally, the intro splash screens play at about 1fps.

I'm playing on a fairly beefy RTX 3070 Thinkpad and the non-VR version of the game (and lots of other recent titles) play beautifully with no issues. Am I doing something wrong?

I would try create a shortcut of the shiopping.exe then put " -vr" at the end of target in properties if you have open xr toolkit click disable the toolkit at the top of the companion...then open...see how that works for you...
open it from the new link you made on desktop.
yours is different to my pico4 as you are not streaming.
i dont like how it only gives the option from steam launcher to "play vr with open xr" and think it should have open vr with the compatibility to use open xr if you prefer.

Must confess I have no idea what OpenXR is (with or without toolkit). Pretty sure I haven't installed anything like that. Just SteamVR for the first time and PSVR2 app from Steam. Nvidia drivers are up to date (August 20, v.560)

good news for you...i just changed VDXR back to Steam VR ( open vr ) and it works so open XR is not even needed anyway.
create a shortcut to the shipping exe to desktop and add the -vr to "target" in properties just add it to the end of the line of the exe making sure you do a space between it.
only launch the game from this exe you make and dont try launch it from steam or steam vr.
that should open for you and will use normal open vr .
it will fail to launch direct from steam due to steam insisting its on open XR
pretty sure this will solve your problem
