Riven

Harder games than Riven?
My first time playing a game like this. Never did play Myst or anything puzzle like besides Talos Principle. I heard a lot about how this game was pretty hard. It was a great experience but I expected more in terms of difficulty based on its reputation. Is there any other games that are harder than this one? I realise I quite like this genre of games but I also would like some harder ones

I started RHEM once and refunded it after being a bit frustrated, if that counts :)

Also the other games in the series have some hard puzzles, especially Myst IV: Revelation

The original Riven is harder than the remake. I'd say so even if you have completed the remake.

The 1997 version of Riven had a harder fire marble puzzle. While in general Myst III:Exile had easier puzzles there were more of them and a few head scratchers.

Next to the Myst series, Quern was my favorite and had a Riven feel. It also had 1 or 2 puzzles that really made you think.

RHEM is harder, but not in a fun way. With Myst and Riven, the puzzles are surrounded by environmental storytelling and world flavor. With RHEM, the puzzles are surrounded by more puzzles that just unlock more puzzles. Might be somebody's thing, but I can't personally recommend it.

Hmm fair enough. I do like the world building of Riven & Talos principle. Was a big highlight of Riven for me. Not sure how I’d like a game without a world to it but I suppose I will see

When I couldn't find Riven for sale around my childhood home, I played Nancy Drew games. They're pretty campy and easy.

I do like Unity games that have puzzles. Killer Frequency I just love because of the 80s vibe. Not VR unfortunately but with my curved screen I didn't care. It's not hard though. It's basically akin to find a code on a sticky note, which corresponds to something on a specific page of a magazine, etc. And it's a murder mystery. Do well and everyone survives. Do poorly ( don't worry you can play a laugh track) and everyone dies. You get an achievement for doing both playthoughs

There are 5 "Myst" games"
Myst. Riven. Exile. Revelation. En of Ages.

Also there is URU. It's online and massive!

There is also Obduction and Firmament. < Tough as well

I was thinking to try my hand at going through the rest of the myst games. I probably will start there. Especially as they are all on sale right now

I've heard Schism series is the Dark Souls of Myst-likes. Haven't played them myself, too intimidated lol. Mysts are plenty difficult for me, and I've only played realMyst, Myst III: Exile and Obduction. Currently trying my best in Riven. It's gorgeous, but often makes my head hurt.
