Like in that one scene were one of Gehn's lackeys runs away from the player. The controls and the view is shortly locked.
So for such videos, it could be easy to force the player watching from a specific angle and making it impossible to change the view, position as long as the scene is not over.
That would be a short reduction of freedom I could perfectly live with, when I get upscaled vids instead of the rendered chars.
It's still a niche...

It dropped?
Anyways, I honestly would prefer an upscaled original over this one then.
But even that wasn't done yet. :(
IMHO Rand Miller will always be Atrus, Sheila Goold Catherine and the late John Keston Ghen.
Not some rendered NPCs. :P
Still, if it was the ONLY way we could get both a remake and a VR version, then I'm glad for the compromise.
I really enjoyed the game, but overall I still would play a properly remastered original and click myself through pictures to move instead of actually moving in a rendered 3D-world.
At least for Riven I would do that.
Yet, as of its current state, I rather play the original with some gloom, since it would be so much better having higher resolutions available. :(
So I often end up starting it, but even cannot get further than the temple island, as the visuals are still nice (can't do much wrong with good pictures), but the resolution is more than aged.
Anyways... Gonna continue on Myst now. :D
Best way to enjoy the original, if your setup permits, is to output it to your TV (assuming you have one for movies and stuff, like a home theater setup) instead of your PC screen.
Sitting at a distance, viewing it on a TV, the low resolution is not as noticeable, and the original still holds up VERY well. I both replayed the original and played the remake in this way, one right after the other. Having done this, I can honestly say Cyan deserves that 90%+ review score on Steam. They knocked it out of the park, in terms of the "feel" of the visuals and the game as a whole, despite some unfortunate design decisions related to VR.
The feeling is definitely there. :)

Terence Stamp was the most handsome General Zod IMHO. ;)
