Can not finish marble puzzle (major spoilers!)

I have some problems with the marble puzzle on temple island. I already figured out the right positions of the marbles and also the right colors. In Gehn's labor I figured out the base number by putting the marble on the scales and get it into the green scale, the marble in Gehn's labor is shining white now at that position.
So, for me, the base number is 9. Also found out that I have to subtract and add the numbers from Gehn's note. I also know how to read numbers above ten.
So I should have everything for the right solution.
But when I do so, and everything seems right, putting the handle down - nothing happens, and no button appears.
I already checked in walkthroughs if I really have the right colors and right positions - they are. I also checked in the Riven Companion if I read the numbers correctly - I did.
Checked everyting 3 times. I'm seeing the position "9" and calculating -5, -8, +4, +11 and +14, everything seems right, but nothing happens.
Is it necessary to solve the other book before on jungle island? Because I didn't do that yet (the riddle in the cave with the different animal symbols on the stones)
Or what could I do wrong?

Essentially, the colored marbles need to be positioned with the correct color in the correct spot. This is the same on every playthrough, so you can always check the correct solution versus the one you got, if you wish. You're correct about the 9. That means that assuming your marble positions are correct, the only thing you could potentially have wrong are the offsets. The easiest thing to do would be to look up a d'ni numbering chart.

If you'd like a more subtle hint about either the marbles or the numbers, you might need to let us know more about how you arrived at your solution, so we can see what you got wrong, and nudge you in the right direction.

On Gehn's Note I got the following numbers in this order:
Jungle = -8
Survey = -5
Temple = +4
Prison = +11 (Like Number 1, but with a half circle on the bottom)
Boiler = +14 (Like Number 4, but with a half circle on the bottom)

So with the base number 9 I come up to the following solution:

"x" are the positions I used
Means from total left to total right, when seeing the first position as 0, it's 1, 4, 13, 20 and 23

But still .. it doesn't work in this way :(

Looks like your Red and Orange are in the third column instead of the second. That might be the only thing wrong with it, but that was the first thing I noticed. Let us know if that does the trick!

Those are certainly the correct marble positions, so the problem has to be with your offsets. For the offsets, you have two negatives and 3 positives, which looks correct so far. Can you post a screenshot of the note on Gehn's table so we can see what the D'ni numerals are?

I get conflicting information as well. As one i get ORANGE as an color from survey island but an YELLOW marble (maybe my eyes play tricks on me lol). My SLider positions are CORRECT but the colors should be too. I have triple checked everything matching symbols to colors, matching symbols to forms, still did not work Then i took the colors from a RANDOM guide and they work but not mine since they dont match the colors i have.

I'm having the same problem. I have restarted the flipping thing FOUR times being very careful to do everything in the right order. The fire marbles are definitely in the right place as are the sliders. I'm at a loss what to do!

Did you arrange your marbles and sliders according to a guide? Post some screenshots, if you can, and we can check them for you.

Not sure how to upload a screenshot here but the sliders are at positions 1, 4, 13, 20 and 23. The fire marbles are Purple in top left Blue in top right with green directly to the left of it. Yellow is on the bottom row one in from the left with the red one directly above.
