Why does underwater heater switch automatically turn off?
When I enter the village for the first time and go down the ladder on the first sub pad the heating pad is on but the switch is off. I turn on the switch (up) to keep the heater pad on and keep water away so I can come back later. Later in the game when I take the sub to here and then go to stop 2 (center speakers platform in the water) I walked back and the switch was off (down). I turn it back on, go up and close the Warg steam vent but when I go back to the switch it is off. I turn it on, go in the door and when I come out again later the switch is off again. It doesn't really matter too much once you find the sub but it should stay on once I turn it on. What gives?

Many of these sort of things, its hard to tell when there's an asset loading and unloading-based reason behind it, and when it's a narrative reason. This is one that might be narrative based, as those heating pads probably only get a quick burst of power when you activate them and then cool off quickly.

That may have always been the way they wanted to portray this, but it wasnt feasible in the original, so they were always on.

This is my lore explanation. (I'm in agreement that it's actually an issue with the way Unreal handles asset loading and off-loading...)

Might be that the villagers are messing with the things you change. It's a lot less obvious in this game over the original, (I think there was a whole cutscene of them running around and slamming doors, but I haven't played the original in at least 10 years...) but most of the homes in the village are occupied by folks who don't trust your character.

It's a design choice.

I never really got why the heaters sometimes stay on and sometimes don't when you move the sub away from that stop.

All the heater pads work this way. When the sub passes over or stops on them, they heat up for a specific length of time. The sub's controls show you which pads are heated with a white circle.

Ha! Never put 2 and 2 together as far as the white circles on the control panel indicating an active heat pad! I wondered why they seemed somewhat "random"! ;)
