right.... it's the door hinge. Instant Refund.
Looked through the menu to see if there was a key to highlight 'interactables'.
There isn't.
Refunded.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for contextual clues in the environment (Quern does that well imo). But this just seems 'pixel hunty' and I'm already going to tell that it's going to frustrate me beyond belief.
At least they have the courtesy to do this during the very first puzzle.
Thanks I guess...

Actually this game does a good job with making interactables that are logical parts of the environment. Riven is well regarded for having puzzles that are interacting with a functional world and not just having puzzles for puzzles sake. It's not just clues in the world, it IS the world. When it comes to just finding the right place to click, the hinge is probably the worst one and it's really not that bad.

This is why I don't consider this a puzzle game in any way. It's more of figuring out the world like an anthropologist.

I'm just sad that we'll never get a chance to fully know Rebel Poet. Goodbye and safe journeys my friend!

idk man, I think we are all probably better off without.
Quern wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Myst and Riven, and they clearly have not played Myst if they thought Riven was going to be a pixel hunt. And they were incredibly quick to assume Riven was a pixel hunt over one minor puzzle.
From where I'm sitting, their capacity for making rational judgements appears to be questionable.

Just make sure Smart Cursor Visibility is on. It enables the cursor to (dis)appear dynamically depending on movement and whether an object or interface is interactive.

This just goes to show you how stuck people can get in a certain mindset.

Honestly, if anyone were in this situation in real life, one of the FIRST things they would do is check the hinge to see if they could remove the door, if they really wanted to get past it. On top of that, there is an arrow shaped object in the game world pointing at it.

Cyan, if youre reading, I understand why you left the game like this after playtesting. Dont second guess yourselves because of quasi-troll posts like this.
So you quit the game over an easter egg, because that's what it basically is xD
It's more there for those who've played the original, as a nod to their first puzzle in the 1997 game, telling us "we have changed a few things for you".

For the rest of you who haven't played the original, it's just a similar challenge to "the" challenge in the first game.

Either way, I consider it to be a bit of an inside joke more than anything else. But you do you.

As a previous poster said, that's basically the only time this happens in the game (for that reason, I also think it's a weird little design decision, and would have loved for them to change that one up in the remake, but here we are).
They did change the puzzle from the original, though. That’s the problem. The original’s solution was unexpected, but in a way someone might actually overlook for a locked door. The new solution is just silly.

I kind of get it. The first one is the worst one. If I didn't remember that from the original it would be harder to get into the game than necessary.

The reason for the new solution is more of an accessibility feature carried over from their most recent Myst remake. In that, objects previously on the ground or doors you would originally be expected to duck under were made obtainable by someone either sitting or standing. If the interact prompt from the original solution remained on the ground, someone who couldn't reach down, for example someone in a wheelchair or with bad legs would not be able to play the game comfortably. Would be nice to have these changes optional, but it's not too bad

That's right, not being able to crouch was a dead giveaway for me.

The arrow in the shape of a dagger pointing at the hinge is much bigger than just a few pixels.

TBH, I understand you. Riven is a bit... peculiar in that regard. Unlike all the other Myst games.

Cant blame you. Interaction is a hit and miss in this game. Sometime the "hand (cursor what ever)" shows up right away when you can interact with something, other times you have to be at the right place and be looking at the right pixel, and other times you have too force the "hand" to appear so you can move it around and try to find the interactive point.

It took me way longer to figure out I needed to crouch under the old door than to find the hinge with an actual arrow pointing to it lol, if that "puzzle" is too hard the rest of the game will be hopeless for you, but dang giving up on a game you paid money for so quickly is beyond me
