Riven will not quit properly on my iMac
I have a 24-inch 2023 iMac with the following specs:

Chip - Apple M3
Memory - 24 GB
macOS - Sonoma 14.5

When I Select “Quit” from main menu the screen goes blank (Does not quit). I also saw this in the demo version. Here are the steps to reproduce:

1) Open the Riven application (game)
Result: Riven open full screen. Mac message in upper right corner says “Game Mode: On. Game mode prioritizes the performance of this game while in full screen.”
2) After Unreal Engine splash screen, press “Esc” (to bypass Cyan moon ball)
Result: Starts Loading...
3) After loading, at main menu, select “New Game”, “Load” or “Continue"
Result: Game starts/picks up where saved
4) Play game for a few minutes (move to new location to possibly engage “Auto Save” feature)
5) Press “Esc” key
Result: Game goes back to main menu
6) Select “Quit” from main menu
Result: Screen goes blank (Does not quit)
7) In Apple menu bar, select “Riven-Mac-Shipping” drop down menu
Results: Drop down is display with “Quit Riven” command Q greyed out (i.e. cannot quit)
8) Workaround. Under Apple drop down, select “Force Quit” and in “Force Quit Applications” pop up select Riven then Force Quit button

Looks like wearing AirPods might cause this. Strange.

Seems like perhaps that for the Mac version, the ending has not yet been written....

I have been in contact with support@cyan.com and they have been very nice in returning my emails. It looks like they are still working on a solution to the problem. They said:

"The AirPods issue is a known one that affected Myst (2021) on MacOS, and appears to be affecting Riven now, as well. Why some Airpods cause this problem is interesting, and we hope to figure out a solution to the issue, but we have no ETA for when that might happen."

This also happens with an old pair of "Soundpeats Q30 Plus" wireless earbuds I have. Must have to do with Bluetooth and the MacOS. What I find interesting but a little disappointing is that this is a known problem since Myst (2021) meaning they have had 3 years to figure it out. BTW I have "Real Myst Masterpiece Edition" and have no problem.

I get that Mac's are not their main gaming priority but Cyan still need to remember where they came from (Myst first came out on a Mac) and the new "M" series of chips are top of the line. Also, the new Riven patch/update to version 1.1.0 did not solve the issue. Hopefully they will figure it out.

Patch 1.2.0 did not resolve this problem. I love the work of Cyan and have been a fan and buying their games since I first played Myst in the '90's but It is sad to hear that in 3 years they have not been able to resolve an issue that affects not just Airpods but other bluetooth wireless earbuds.
