Well! If you like to play games where you have to use your brain. Then so is Riven really fun.

Depends what you find fun. For me it was incredibly fun to immerse myself in the original Riven and figure everything out. One of the most rewarding games I've ever played.

i'm pretty open minded guy, exploration is really fun if there is incentives to do so´within the game, like FF6 for example once you hit the second part of the game it turns into an open world and you have to figure out everything for yourself. it's neat nw riven is not an RPG just comparing the exploration part

If you're asking people to convince you to buy it it's probably not for you.

There's no way you're going to get an accurate answer on this one.

The good news, though, is that if you buy the game you can easily tell whether you're going to like it or not before the refund period is up, if you don't dawdle in the main menu. What you experience in the first 60 minutes is typical of the entire game in terms of structure, art, mechanics etc.

I was going to suggest to try the demo, but as for so many devs on steam they think the smartest thing in the world is to remove Demo's when they release a game.

Is the game fun? Nah, unless you enjoy knowing nothing about anything with no hints to what you are supposed to do.

I suggest you buy the game, try it for just short of 2 hours and refund if you don't like it. And before anyone starts, yes, that is very much within the "rules" for asking for a refund.

Fun for me would be the ability to play for any amount of time in VR with a proper solid base for a controller option, rather than the HMD being gatekept by a controller eco-system that sucks.

And in my case, the controller options are either.
A Vive Wand Touchpad.... I hate you for subjecting gamers to touchpads valve.
or
A Quest 2 controller that is starting to develop thumbstick drift and rebounding issues.

Between an original Vive and its touchpads, or a Quest 2 and its Wii motes with crap quality. Which one would you choose?

Flat gaming. Correct.

When I have a perfectly capable set of flat gaming Gamepads I could be using with that HMD for a more flawless control input experience.

I hope you didn't think I was only speaking in terms of physical ability when I make claims to exclusively gravitating towards VR games that offer Accessibility above all else. Accessibility definition here includes things like having multiple input options to bypass bad hardware without having to spend 2x as much money... or in the case of a eco-system like PSVR2, having to buy the WHOLE KIT AGAIN just to bypass a drifting thumbstick.

In the age of Google and immediate relief from even the mildest of frustration presented by the necessity of cognitive function it's probably hard to grasp the concept that some of us do, in fact, enjoy using our brains to solve puzzles and uncover mysteries without a Ubisoft style quest marker and glowing trail leading to the next plot point.

I didn't know you where the person asking if the game was fun or not. Shush fanboy.

Riven has exploration and you have to figure out things by yourself. You have clear goals edicted in the intro and in the journal provided but to achieve those you’ll have to explore a lot, note things you see, put the clues together, think about solutions. If you like all of this, I think you’ll like the game!
The exploration and unique ambiance of the game are wonderful in my opinion, and worth the journey!

i like figuring out puzzles as long as they are not so hidden that you actually have to look it up.

Be observant and logical. Riven is not so much about hiding things as needing you to put together what you've seen and learned.

No these games have mostly nostalgic appeal. Myst and Riven were insane back in the late 90s the graphics were unmatched. Game play is minimal, and its a lot of trial and error, figure out obscure puzzles by exploring, which back in the day within the aspect of its the late 90s and no other game looks like this, was interesting enough.

Without that nostalgia, your basically aimlessly wandering around a now sub par looking game world relying on only the puzzles to carry the game, which it was the graphics that always carried these games.

Its one of those games you might have spent thounsands of hours on as a kid but realize today how awful games use to be.

You visibly know nothing John Snow.
Riven was fantastic and hard, some puzzles lacked clues.
BUT.
The remake changed the hardest puzzles a lot, there are more clues, the puzzles are easier to understand. The game looks amazing. We’re not in 97 anymore.
If you like recent games like Quern, Outer Wilds or Haven Moon, you’ll like Riven. It’s an exploration/puzzle game just like those.
Those were clearly inspired by Riven but modernizing things. The remake does the same.
