Is there a timer in this game?

In the trailer it sais something like "Time is of the essence.." I'm wanting to take my time with this game not rush through it because of some timer.

It is just a sentence referring to "hurry up or the darkness will win" but it has nothing to do with a timer. You shouldn't take trailers to seriously. At this point, everyone knows trailers (films and games) are a little bit dramatic. That's because it wants to catch the spectator's interest

I agree with that. Express Darkness is the only achievement that could be related to that sentence. Other than that it is an adventure game where you can take your time for explore and kill enemies.
