How can I see anything about servants?
How can I see how many are needed, where they are, what noble houses or luxury shops, etc? I don't really know how to use them and don't see a lot of on-screen info to help inform me.

Just like there is no fixed shops to farmers ratio, there is no servants to nobles ratio. If the servant lives close to noble and their tasks are also nearby, you can get away with only one servant per noble house, sometimes less. If the shops are too far away, you may need more than one per household. Its been awhile since I've played, but I think all of the educated occupations (scribes, priests, leaders) will hire servants if the nobles have enough, so adding a few more can help increase happiness for your middle class.

Thanks, but there is absolutely zero way of seeing if I should or shouldn't build them? I'm not asking for a ratio, I'm asking if there is any way in game to tell if they are either necessary or of value at all, zero way to see their impact?

So, servants can speed up life of nobles or luxury shops... sort of.
Servants barely complain, need almost nothing. lol.

Noble housekeeper shopping quicker with some servants. She can do more worship or festival things.
Shopkeeper that benefit by servants can collect large quant breads. He can become new noble easily, if you need more house.

and as dav said: Servants can also free up time of shopper's kids for education. Education is vital for your expansion...

But is there any way to see their effect?

No, there ins't, but it's a good metric to check their houses and see if they are low on food. If all of them are well stocked (meaning there's plenty of work for them) then you could add a few more. But if some of them are living on foraged food and/or almost no bread, then you have enough (or too much) for your Elite/middle class demand (or maybe they are too far away, who knows)

servants take tons of bread so i think you have to be careful about making to many of them
