Why does the christmas event keep resetting?

Twice now, I've started up the game only to find my progress in the christmas event reset. While the ability to earn the rewards again is handy, I would prefer to actually be able to finish it at some point and get the event pin.

As someone with the event pin, I'd like to know how to rest my progress to farm rewards again.

as someomne of the nationality with this issue. trust me, you do not want events to reset every time you close the game down... and finishing an event before the game crash is quite unlikely...
