My anticipation for DDS2 was to recapture the same feeling I experienced with the previous title, but with more added options and more freedom. Unfortunately, the current state of the DEMO is disappointing. While the graphics might be passable, the gameplay, crafting, UI, the island, and the character interactions all fall short of expectations. People walking in the island feel like robots without soul, without feeling, everything just feels lifeless.. and that thing when you sell the weed, they just vanish into hemp.. like what.. :(((
Despite my initial intention to give the DEMO another chance, launching the game prompted an immediate decision to turn it off... it simply lacks the appeal to engage me. :(( I even considered revisiting DDS1. Despite its limitations, DDS1 still feels more like a better game compared to DDS2.
I only played for 20 minutes as of writing this, but it already feels like such a downgrade. No interaction with cannabis plants at all. Everything is done trough UI menu, which is also terrible.
Packaging drugs is done trough UI menu, no more trays to spill your powder or buds on, grind, or mix, or do whatever you need to do. That's why first DDS was at least somewhat unique.
Map feels odd. I like the theme, Latin America, cartels, all that stuff, it's interesting. However unless in full version there will be some towns, villages on the mainland, not only a couple of buildings here and there with lifeless NPCs standing in front. In my opinion it would feel better in dense towns, villages, it would feel more packed, alive.
Assets are placed like someone was in a rush. Buildings going into hills and such.
Almost no NPCs. Found a cow that does not collide with player's body, doesn't move, doesn't make a sound. A couple of NPCs in front of buildings, doing absolutely nothing, motionless. Vendors are moving their bodies, but they don't blink, absolutely no lip movement when talking.
Optimisation needs improvements. PC heats like I'm playing some heavy games.
Parkour is a nice touch, but done weirdly. While running, if you press spacebar, character goes into slide, however when I tried to slide under trees or something, I couldn't go trough a single time. Character should jump instead of sliding, as in DDS. Jump on your way towards a fence or a wall, to get over it quicker, escape pursuit and such, now you have to stop in front of what you want to get over, then press space to start the animation, get over the obstacle.
Graphics are ok, but I honestly hoped for better immersion to the surrounding world I guess, like better colour tones, dust on village roads, better vegetation. Atmosphere is kinda not there. Which is not a big deal of course, but there's simply no atmosphere in the game's world.
However, the biggest issue for me right now is that what made DDS unique is not here. No interaction with drugs. I used to love organising my containers, jars, equipment on the table, mix different powders and drugs in the tray, mixing, giving it a label, packing into baggies, sorting them on another table and etc... Weed growing now is just UI menu too, nothing like in DDS, I have high hopes for map improvements too, if there won't be any towns, villages, what's even the point of all this then. NPCs need work done on them too.
Honestly, doesn't even feel like Demo, more like pre-alpha prototype.
Hopefully it will be improved on these things until release.
How lazy it makes me read you! Just as you think it's great, there are people who think it's a ♥♥♥♥... It's a matter of taste... or whether the developers are scamming you or not. To each his own. DDS1 is an unfinished game, which had a lot of future, but the developers decided to leave it halfway to make this other game... That is, one scam after another scam... I won't buy it.
Many members of this community would actually be able to make the game better, yet they refuse to enable workshop access.
Kinda logical, since noone will buy dds2 if community members mod dds1 to be better
