Your best long term prospects are to move to season 2 as early as possible. So, as soon as research becomes available, start doing that.
Should leave you in a better position for season 2.
If you havn't already checked, look at unemployed staff members. At the start of the game there's a better unemployed designer than the one you start with.
If you're looking to do a single season save, mabee another team.
But, Aston and Williams could be good for 3 - 4 seasons.
The AI is slower than the player designing parts, so it's inevitable that you will catch them. Even, if starting a long way back it takes a few seasons.
Research is exactly the same as design, except it's for next seasons rules/car.
So, the same rules apply for design really. Floor > Rear wing > Front wing > the rest.
Research will open up about 3 months into the year, and it's when they announce the new rule set for the next year.
Any part that remains the same, you might as well do design rather than research though as previous years design will carry over.
If you're doing really poorly though, might aswell look to the following year earlier and get more research projects done than the other teams.
That's probably what you should be doing with lower grid teams, certainly in season 1.
just have patience, all your hard worth will pay off. As your drivers and staff have 5 years contracts, you have nothing to worry about there. you can then concentrate on car builds and getting wind tunnel etc up a few levels during season 2.
,
Start the game. Immediately design CHASSIS and UNDERFLOOR and update 'weather centre' within facilities.
Then forget Vettel and Stroll as they keep spinning or locking up, replace with OCON and NORRIS. give both 10m salary, 5 yr contract, 1m starting bonus, 2m race bonus for 1st place. optional reserve driver Piastri 1m salary 5yr contract.
next aquire 2 staff, Technical Chief - Matt Harman, Head of Areodynamic - Alessandro Cinelli. Both 3m salary, 300,000 starting & 5yr contract.
This then sets you up with all good basis to start.
After 5 races you turn the -20m into positive cashflow. just in time to manufacture Chassis and Underfloor, next research Front and rear wing (when designing use option 'show rank on grid' and adjust sliders to give you best in all areas. and manufacture when complete (at least 6 of each in case of problems)
2nd half of season one, research only the parts needed and update team hub (staff exp) and race simulator (driver exp). weather centre (wet race strategy)
Your cars should now be finishing races between 12th to 15th.
-
Start of 2nd season, immediately design only the parts researched during season one. Then focus on upgrading to level 3 Wind Tunnel and CFD simulator. again now reaching parts for season 3, you should now be comfortably qualifying & finishing mid-table.
-
Season 3, continue repeating what you did during season 2 and you should be regularly qualifying and finishing in top half of table. Enabling you to continue building up main staff and car facilities. and purely spending on research and design. Towards the end of season 3 and season 4 you be getting podium finishes and start to relish the rewards of your work. :)
Hey found this thread and just wanted to say that I'm trying your strategy, currently only on the 4th race but I feel like it's already paying off with Ocon and Norris on my team.
