Motorsport Manager also had this feature where you never signed any driver/staff for the future. It was instant-signing or nothing.
While back in the 90's when there was a lot of F1 Manager games, this weren't a thing. Even Grand Prix Manager from 96 (1995 season) had contracts based on number of races, and new contracts started at the end of the old ones.
With some exceptions. Some times (different kind of triggers), you got the prompt asking you if you want to sign the driver right away or wait until end of contract (signing right away meant paying off your current driver),
Even EA's F1 Manager mistake had this features, that you signed drivers and staff for the next season, not the current.
Car setup
Regulation votes
Driver Contracts
To name a few
As that is the real managerial part of it
F1M uses the same setup system as MM
MM also includes regulation votes - can vote to have circuits added or removed from the calendar
The contract systems are similar between both games, however MM is better as it does a better job of simulating negotiations, as they take place over the course of days and not instantly.
In MM you can interact with your drivers, interactions can lead to positive or negative driver traits popping up.
In MM you can also interact with the press.... I mean there is so much more to do in MM than F1M... I really don't know why Frontier didn't look at MM and copy them.... The blueprint for a top management Sim has been out for yearrrrs!
You sign them for 2 seasons not 1, then they'll have a 1 season contract for next season. It's not ideal but it's a workaround. It will of course sign them for the current season and replace a driver, that's why I wait till after Abu Dhabi.
Lets say you could negotiate contracts ahead of time. At the start of the season in the game you can't hire any new staff because they are contracted to other teams. So you could be stuck with whatever team. Also if other teams or doing the same. Could you pre contract someone 2-5 seasons out? Would you have to wait for until they are within a year of their contract end date to send a proposal?
With that being said, if you wanted to hire anyone straight up, you have the current system where you can just break contract immediately. Because you know some people are going to get impatient waiting for the season to switch to higher updated staff
If the AI can also negotiate with staff ahead of time, could there instances of the AI 'stealing' your staff? Would there need to have some kinda of 'contract wars' and get out-bid by another team.
( Piastri Mclaren/Alpine contract fiasco.)
Maybe your star driver (Fernando) just gives you the finger and states they are leaving you and won't negotiate terms. Suddenly you won't have your workhourse and force to hire a poor free agent to tie you over.
I'm pretty sure suddenly there would be a forum full of complaints about staff leaving them because they got poached by another team.
Realistic- sure Hardcore may like it....maybe
This is a game. so just have your instant gratification and why wait a whole season or end of contracts to get the people you want. You can just hire people you need straight up.
