Young driver potential
Those of you who are past season 4, which rookies, if any have over 85 overall rating?

I personally think their growth rate in game is disappointing and doesn't really make signing one worthwhile.

None.

80 is about the best you can get for 4+ seasons.

I'm on my fourth season and Vesti is my testdriver since the second season. I'm halfway through and he's lvl 81. If I contracted him from season 1 I reckon he could have been lvl 83

its worth it since they are dirt cheap and get insane amounts of exp. you basically get 1 skillpoint/race and you can max out the 3 best stats in no time. sure not everyone has a good base, but if you find someone where the good stats are high and the bad ones are low like piastri you have your crownjewel right there.

Fair point, but I think that this should be paired with driver regression as they age too.

#1
control>breaking>cornering>reactions
#2
accuracy>smoothness
#3
overtaking>defending
#4
adaptability

as much as smoothness can help, but piastri has 48 vs norris 83 and its not been a big issue. sure you have to pit while norris got 6-10% from his tyres left, but i still finish P2. 6-10% doesnt sound like much, but thats 6-10 laps with 1 tyre mode more and every tyre mode you go up you gain ~0.5sec/lap. so thats already 3-5secs. on the whole race distance thats easily 10-15sec plus the time you gain, from delaying the speed reduction that comes with higher tyre wear and you can run more efficient strats.

still i would prefer the others, solely cause they reduce the chance to crash, while giving you raw pace (cause sometimes smoothness gains you no benefit, especially in mixed weather conditions).

well they grow less slow, but thats about it. regression is a fair point, but thats for CA to decide. i mean it should be a stat as well, if it comes, one that is seperate and cant get skilled. Alonso is a prime example for a driver whose stat would be rlly high, since he can still perform rlly good at his age. thing is how do you wanna judge the young drivers?

as much as regression would make it more realistic we dont have a shiny ball and can look into the future. i think the fairest is to judge their current performance and give them a higher exp boost the younger they are, like its done right now.

but tbh putting in regression or not is the least of my worries. there are tons and tons of things that need fixing and adjusting beforehand :)

100% and thanks for the great info above.

Really interesting regarding the tyres too. I've just started a save with a Pak file to make the delta difference between compounds a little more extreme and it's made the world of difference already.

For me the biggest issue is definitely the lack of challenge later on in a playthrough. I've stopped every playthrough at 4 seasons because it just becomes too easy after it even without abusing the sliders.

its season 2 and i have mostly 1/2 qualies and 1/2 finishes. so already no challenge and i started with aston.

I've been thinking growth seems stunted. I'm also wondering if some intended development points get lost. Sometimes it seems like there's enough experience after a race for more than one development point but you just get one.

i had races where i got 2 points on piastri, so you can get more then 1/race.

its just funny. aston martin S2 france. im starting P1/2 and verstappen P3 and within the first lap i already pulled away by 3.3sec. they rlly need to make the AI smarter in terms of design and research.
