BUYERS WARNING: DO NOT FALL FOR THE HYPE
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME IF YOU EXPECT A PROPER SIMULATION OF THE F1 WORLD! IT'S AN ARCADE GAME!

it's an accumulation of arcade minigames with fancy graphics and license. The management aspect is comparable with that of EAs Fifa Manager mode. There is also no real simulation behind the fancy graphics, a car with low downforce will reach exactly the same top speed as a car with high downforce. Setups do not matter, it's only a minigame that if you get it right your driver will get extra driving stats for the weekend. Blue flag implementation is poor, safety car implementation is poor, tyre simulation is poor. There is no telemetry. You'll not experiment with different setups to get the last tenth out of a car. The race is basically micromanaging the drivers ERS and watching scripted crashes. The AI intelligence is rudimentary at best. There is also no real competetion, you'll be competing with Ferrari in an Aston Martin in no time. All in all this game is only for hardcore fans who enjoy the license and graphics and are okay with a shallow simulation.

ONLY BUY THIS GAME IF YOU ARE HARDCORE F1 FAN AND A CASUAL PLAYER!

I came here to disagree with you @op after reading your title but then after reading your post I actually can't. Its a shame but all your points are accurate.

Whats crazy is a game called Grand Prix Manager 2 came out in 1996 with the following features:
-The ability to spy and steal designs from other teams
-The ability to develop technology not within the regulations and use it or wait and see if it becomes legal in the future
-Sponsorship Negotiations
-Engine supplier negotiations, Fuel and tire negotiations
-The ability to edit pretty much everything from team and driver names and all the pictures that go with it.

This game has a long way to go to catch up.

Real shame as I was hoping this would be as enjoyable as Motorsport Manager. I hope things will improve but for now I'm somewhat disappointed

The game has not even gone on general release, nor had a patch. Pretty much everything "sim" is at basic level.

And I have absolutely no idea where you would expect anything more than was advertised.

Wasn't a patch released last week?

That was a fix for localisation (ie wonky language options). No game data was actually changed.

Unfortunately I have to agree with op.
Hoped for a good simulation of races and team progression, but the game delivers none of these. Lazy arcade game with fancy graphics.

Maybe correct representation of motorsport basics? In Footbal manager if I decide team will play on counterstrikes, or on tiki-taka, team play counterstrikes or tiki-taka. In that "manager" I have identic lap times in disregard of setup, driving style, agression, fuel consuption or tire wear.

I agree +1

It's a poor lazy rip off of a mobile game (Motorsport Manager) and priced 3x as much because they have the official F1 license.

It is very interesting to me that all the white knights that were shunning my observations about this MONTHS AGO!!! have now disappeared.

Funny how they have so much to say and tell people who may just have a better idea than they do "how to suck eggs" but equally lack the humility to admit they were wrong or stick around after.

The moment i read "frontier" i knew this wasn't going to be a MANAGEMENT game.

You can patch out bugs. But a patch wont change the entire gamedesign.
They have made some design decisions here that wont be fixed in a patch. Like that car setup does nothing to the car, only gives drivers skillbonuses.

Like sports interactive often had said. This is not something we can do with a patch. But will consider it for next years game.

I'm sorry but what? I am struggling to understand your post. I actually own FM and have done for several years. There is no way a Motorsport game can be as detailed as FM because we only have 10 teams, where as FM has 10,000+ teams.

As for complexity of "setup" vs "tactics", again there is 11 people to manage in FM. F1 has two.

Oh for sure I agree on design improvements for future versions. But lets be real here, this is the first version of a new franchise. Its going to be implemented in basics standards to make the title "work".

That is actually not true at all.

This is the one that had THE MOST dev time ... this is a title that will drop every year now .... look at F1 sim, COD, FIFA, Madden - titles that are annual - this means you only truly have the big jump every 4-5 years.

This was the one where they had ALL THE TIME they wished to take - there was no rush here they didn't even make it for the Season start or any milestone - they launched the Sunday of the summer break return - not exactly a pinnacle.

So respectfully this statement is very naive and implies that the first game has to be the "raw basics" and I am sorry there are FAR too many examples that proves otherwise.
