Help me understand ERS...
whats the deal with the battery %? If I harvest, it still goes down regardless how do I know how much ERS I have to actually play with?

im the same.. not sure if its bugged?

I have to say i'm a bit lost between blue gauge, yellow gauge and ERS % level, i don't understand how it works neither
Team Triss 26 AGO 2022 a las 13:03
The Battery icon in between the two lines is how much charge is stored in your ERS. Yellow is how much charge you've generated in the lap, blue is how much charge you've used during the lap. The difference between them gets applied to the battery, and the blue/yellow lines are zeroed out at the start of every lap.

It's poorly explained, but fairly simple when you understand it.

On Harvest it can still use 1 unit of power per lap I believe. Per lap you can harvest 2 units but in the UI it only states +1 unit per lap while on harvest, so I assume its still using 1 unit per lap. Meaning you will still deploy ERS but less often and overall you should harvest more than you use over the lap.

So why sometimes with battery at 75% in overtake mode it lasts multiples turns and why sometimes it last only 1/2 turn ?

Also sometimes while i am on harvest mode my engeenier says "battery is empty" which is a non sense
Btw, whats the difference between overtake and deployement ? Deployement use the same energy for faster turns, so I don't understand why we do have 2 different settings.

overtake is to try to overtake the car ahead, deploy is to get the fastest lap time

Its track dependant, if you have it set to overtake and you are right behind another car with a straight ahead it will deploy as much as it can at the start of the straight, Australia for example the pit straight followed by the straight following turn 2/3 will drain your battery very quickly if you are following someone. If you race on Monico there are really only two straights (short) with lots of high breaking corners, on overtake I have had my battery last laps.

Deployment is aimed at raw lap pace, it will deploy in strategic areas to reduce your lap time. Overtake will deploy in places where overtaking is much more likely (at the start of a long straight).

I didn't say there couldn't be bugs in it, maybe there are, maybe you read what was happening wrong. I don't know.

But the battery stores 4MJ of energy, you can generate a max of 2 per lap and use a max of 4 per lap, leading to a drain of 2MJ max on your battery per lap, so you'd only get two laps out of it. Harvest should net you about 1MJ per lap into the battery.

Ah nice explanations thanks !

Yellow bar is how much you can regenerate during a lap (2 MJ), when it's full you can't gain more energy on that lap.

Blue bar is the opposite of blue bar, it shows how much you are allowed to spend on a lap (4 MJ), when it's full you can't spend battery power until you start the next lap.

Percentage is your battery level, where 100% is full.
Not sure about the battery size in game but I'd guess around 6 MJ.

Unless these colors change on different color options in game (for color blind etc. I use standard colors), it's opposite. Blue (left bar) is usage and yellow (right bar) is recharge.

If you switch modes in the middle of a lap you might see it act differently. The battery charges from braking, so you recover the most power when entering sharp corners at the end of long straights--often the first corner of a track gives you a lot of recovered power. Watch how the ERS behaves over the course of a full lap to get a better picture.

Correct, i mixed up the colors. I've corrected it now.

Nice one.

I was puzzled when I first played the game but sussed it out when I *ahem* pressed the information button on the ERS panel.
But this is a nice clear explanation for those who are still getting their head around it.
