pitting under safety car

Has anyone got it to work so that it works out better to pit under a safety car. just tried and made me go from 3 to 8th and then no advantage gained with fresh tyres and full push

Depends on how long there is left in the race, i did under VSC, and gained some time on Hamilton, he was 5s in front, after under a sec. Driving Alpine.

I ended up getting Stroll to 4th at Miami by pitting under SC. Half the pack stayed out and then pit like 3 laps later, jumped 8 places with maybe 20 laps to go. AI seems to make some wonky choices sometimes.

I have managed to benefit from it in two races so far, but one race I had a VSC and Hamilton blocked the whole track, so the whole grid got bunched up and ruined my chances for both drivers getting points.

yeah it happend to me either. i was 15th and sc deployed. i entered the pit and when i exit the pit max verstappen lapped me but 14th car escaped from sc. so i was behind 1st car verstappen gap was 40 sec. but sc didnt' let me go through. i stuck behind sc and max verstappen. sc wasted my seconds every tour and when sc leaved the track i was 17th but secons between 16th and 17th was 80 seconds!

I have to disagree.. Mclaren - Norris pulled in to change 50% used softs to go onto mediums, during a VSC. Overtook both mercs on the outlap.

Conversely, I was overtaken when I was undercut by a merc(again), as my tyres were well past their sell by date.

I think a lot of the racing mechanics are in the game - but they're not implemented quite right.
