Maya choice and consequences [some spoilers, episode 2 and 3]
I am mentally stuck and wondering what y'all are thinking. Made my first choice and then replayed the whole second episode once more, just to be able to stare at the decision screen again.

My initial choice was to hook up with Maya, because the vibe I got from watching the series was that for Belters life on ships means your family life is part of the deal - the division of work-life and life works a bit differently, when taking a break from one equals taking a break from the other. Adding to that, the understanding of "social contract" seems pretty prevalent, so if you're a bad captain, you get replaced, as we've seen. So because you can be energetically replaced if you frak it up, one would assume that personal relations are not such a problem compared to our Inyalowda ways. Plus, Camina is far from under-appreciating close relations with people she is close with. ;>

So then, under mental duress, I went on a spoiler trip through episode 3, and it seems that regardless of my Maya choice, it will end up the same way, because I did cut a certain leg off.
And that made me think.. it's hard to describe. Think that, with what's about to happen, the idea of proving your place as a captain, and treating the "web" of crew relations and opinions as something you are now in a position to affect or upset much more than you could before, is actually an important part of this story?
Even knowing that what's about to happen will happen either way, I now can't make the same decision, realising that it will actually undermine the trust I care about. Even if it's just two wackos? Even if it's never been there in the first place? Even if it will break the connection with Maya?

How do you feel about consequences of the Maya choice from this point of view?

Not sure what you mean by "the same way". If you hook up with Maya, she and Camina are together. If you don't, they're just crewmates. And cutting a certain leg off only means that you can't put trust in its former owner in a certain conflict situation later (unless you want it to have a bad ending).

Personally, I hooked up with Maya. There is an undeniable intimate tension between her and Camina, and from what I get about Belters they're direct about that sorta thing. And the crew is like family, so while there might be some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ now and then, they're supposed to have each other's back, so there should be no need to worry about their reaction.

I'm referring to the turn of events onboard in a more general view, though I've only spoiled the plot for myself up to the end of episode 3, so I might be actually overreacting to a flow of events that leads somewhere else than I'm imagining. But if we have a look at it up to now, and try to put on a pessimistic point of view, we kinda got
a badly doing team where second in command decides to do bodily harm to someone in exchange for resources, then accuses the captain of something in order to take the power over, then picks a favourite, and then gets spaced by someone who decides stuff is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up enough that they might just as well do it.

Looking at it that way, it's a bit of a complete frakup and 1/3 of the crew can also be gone at that point. Am I a complete pessimist? I think that looking at things this way makes me go "oh no, I'm letting Camina down, this is unacceptable!" hahhhah, and try to at least not make things worse. And we all know you do NOT let Camina down. as a general life rule.

does this game has anything to do with the books? I only watched the tv show and in there drummer was alone, so I'm not being let down by maya's fate...

From what I understand, the story was created for the game, so none of the characters that got amalgamated into Drummer had this happen in their past. But I only red the 6th book, so I can't tell you for sure.
