Fair warning if you did not watch TV show.
DO NOT BUY THE GAME, because you'll understand very little. Game does quite poor job explaining setting and lore, who is who and why things are the way they are.

It's pretty good fan service game (not amazing, just pretty good), and if you watched TV show I recommend, but for people who never watched The Expanse this will be very hard bite, because things will keep lacking good enough context.

Honestly I'd say it is the opposite. The show is a hard act to follow and this is fails to live it up to considerably. Going into it without any expectations is probably for the better.

What if you only read the books?

Then you're buying a game based on a show and the lead character in this is a composite character.

I completely disagree.

People who have read / seen / played "the original" of any franchise always say this kind of thing about a spin off, and it is almost never true. The original also does not come with a glossary or documentary explaining the world. The audience gradually discovers "the lore" both through in-world elements as well as by reading on the internet,

Just some cursory reading on wikipedia about the setting and the various factions in the solar system is enough. Even that is not really necessary.

If anything, playing this first will make you more interested in the TV show.

Up to which season should one have watched the TV series to fully understand the story in this game?

At least watch season 1/2 as Camina is introduced in Season 2. But honestly Season 3 is one of the best because a LOT happens and Camina becomes more of a central character.
Its a bit slow to start but it has a lot of worldbuilding to appreciate.

But I would seriously watch all 6 seasons. One the BIG stuff goes down in Season 3, you'll want to see more.

I didnt know anything about the lore before buying, but i like the setting. Its not realy hard to undertand the story. Im in chapter II now and love the great characters and the nice grafix! will go on.

Bruh, why did the devs like to cripple them self so. Why not create originals so newcomers can get into? That would be a way better investment.
Thanks btw

I just watched a couple of seasons, will I have enough knowledge to know what's going on?

first two season would already put you in a very good spot. Game takes on events of Camina Drummer prior to what tv showed - and by end of season 2, you are introduced to Camina Drummer, explained all the setting and what do Earth, Mars and Belt factions stand for and what are the relations between each of them.

For desperate people - I guess some competent Youtube video explaining The Expanse lore would suffice (if there is one as I haven't checked).

All those defending the game saying players should the show or read the books first failed to understand the game really faceplanted.
They focused on woke BS instead of explaining the lore and setting properly.

To compare, look at the old Telltale TWD Season 1.
I never watched TWD tv series, but man did they nailed it explaining the world they were living in.

The Telltale games Walking Dead games aren't based on the show though.
