Future of the series

So, as someone who has been playing the series since the very first, I'd say I'm quite the fan. Something about the stuff nobody even cares about like the aesthetics and some of the lore is something I'd love to see more of. I still have my manual with all the cool artwork and history from the first game. In fact, Tribes was my first online FPS. I was too late for the Quake train, and Half-Life and it's mods were still a bit away.

I popped in early today and found just one server of about 20 players, and while it was a blast to jump back in, it's nothing like the packed servers when the game was first launched with plenty of hope for the future. After all time, I wonder if we'll ever get any more. I feel as if the series is a bit cursed. The first game was a blast when it hit, and the 2nd, despite a bumpy launch, truly grew to be something wonderful while it lasted.

TL;DR. Has there been any sort of update on an official follow-up? I'd love to know. It felt like Ascend was close to getting there, but no community content I think really held back the potential.

Midair: Community edition.
But in my experience there aren't many players depending on the server you are on.

I indeed still want to play Midair and give it a try, but I deep down would love to see more 'Tribes'. The weapons, the details, the various familiar factions. I know a spiritual successor is the most likely solution, since like Duke Nukem it feels like the rights are just going to be sat on.

Tribes 2 was the golden age. I'd even say it was ahead of its time in a way or two.

T2 is still played regularly today, in NA region anyway. They get 20 player pubs most days I believe, and have semi regular PUGs too.
