How to play the game in 2018; installing, account, questions etc.

After starting the game the "create account" etc. buttons don't work anymore! So step 1) is mandatory!
1) REQUIREMENT: create an account https://www.hirezstudios.com/my-account/
2.1) Download, install and play via Hi-Rez launcher http://www.tribesascend.com/
or
2.2) Download, install and play via Steam


- After first login one is forced to assign an ingame playername; this can only be changed by spending ingame gold currency. So choose wisely.
- Game framerate is locked to "90" fps. To unlock it, go to "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\Tribes Ascend\TribesGame\Config" and change the variable "MaxSmoothedFrameRate" to your desired value, example "165.000000".
Then start the game and navigate to "Settings -> Video" and enable "Framerate Smoothing"
- Starting via Steam will show a pop-up "Internal error in install proxy 2". You can just click "okay"; no further poblems will follow by doing this.
If it bothers, navigate to "<x>:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Tribes\Binaries\Redist" and delete "ProxyInstallShield.exe".
- If installed via hi-rez launcher or steam, just start the game via "TribesAscend.exe"; steam example to be found in "x:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Tribes\Binaries\Win32".

One can still play with an old Tribes/Hi-Rez-account back from 2012 beta, even if one paid for the goty version or bought ingame gold. Mine worked, all items and ingame currencies were restored. If one's account is deleted, simply contact the support.


Usual question and complains:
A) "Is the game dead?" - Just look for yourself and stop such question; it will only irritate new and indecisive players who migth join the game. Steam or https://steamdb.info/ (steamdb is more accurate) are not showing the players who play via Hi-Rez launcher, so the usual player count is higher.
Playercount is high enough to fill 2 daily ctf and 1 - 2 deathmatch servers (eu or us-east) via "rush hour".

B) "I'm a new player and get shot down by all kind of projectiles (usually spinfusor disks or mortars) all the time (even from across the map), I lose all mid-air duells and get chained down by automatic projectile weapons every time. Some players must cheat" - No, you are playing against players with hundred/thousand of hours playtime, who were playing this game since beta 2012.
I was playing this game for some weeks now and haven't seen 1 player who used cheat-software; some are just incredible good at aiming or the usual "50 % skill - 50 % luck-shots" with mortar spinfusor-disks etc.

C) "Is there latency compensation software in this game?" - Not for all weapons. Hitscan weapons like sniper bxt1/phase rifle have compensation, others not. So one have to predict movement and projectile shots of most weapons.

D) "Is there some kind of team auto balance software?" - Yes and no. Players are getting swapped when one team hase 3 players more than the other team. But that's it.
Always try to balance the teams! Don't be pathetic and disbalance the team by always joining the stronger team (usually seen when there are more lvl 50 players in one team than the others) when being a good player yourself. Be fair!

E) When joining a ctf server, try play objectively, that means ctf and not teamdeathmatch.
To get beter: watch youtube videos or browse forums. If one is, for example, looking for routes
to cap the flag, watch youtube videos, join the ingame practise server "roam map freely" and practise it. Or simply join a server and spectate other players.

this game wont let me insert a player name i played before and have logged into my old account but wont let me get past the screen it just says name not allowed no variation works.

The restriction for playernames is very real in this game.
Only Characters A - Z are allowed, numbers 0 - 9. No space between characters or numbers.
I think even special ASCII chars like ";&^" aren't allowed, but try for yourself.
No unicode too.

what exactly are the benefits i can get from t:a mods? i dont really get it^^

TAMods and TAMods Configuration Tool allows to customize the game in many ways.
For example recording or watching custom routes ingame, projectile changes, social settings etc.
It's a must!

I have played tribes before it was a server issue not allowing me to login to my account thought i was trying to create a new one works now
