Secret attached to this weapon?

There is a rusty long sword you can pick up very shortly after starting the game, your character says something like "I think I should hold on to this." .

My question is, Do I need to hold on to this until the end of the game some reason? Will I get anything?

Just hang on to it, put it in one of your weapon slots and keep playing the game for a bit, you will find out why you should keep it

Where is this weapon? is it the one you upgrade? I beat the game and did not find this

During the rope tutorial at the very beginning of the game, if you turn left and follow the cliff side you'll enter a small cave and find the sword stuck in a dead guy. (Note: The weapon will respawn if you drop it in a later level and go back to the original location, but they will only say the voice line the first time you pick it up.)

I don't think you need to find it, I'm not referring to any of the crypt weapons.

It is wayyyy before that. It's the very first rope you climb down in the game. Turn left, and follow the cliff side.

Ok I found the weapon and I found out something cool about this weapon. When you go into rage mode it coats the weapon in a cool rot effect and makes it have unique sound effects and when it wears off the rot dissolves. I am currently doing a playthrough only using this weapon so I will find out more

Awesome! Knew something was up with it, I've been playing mostly without using rot powers so I never noticed the cool effects.

It does the same effect on other weapons

I thought the sword you upgrade was the only time your characture says something like that?
