Group play
Before I buy this I am wondering how group play works. Does every person need to have a copy or does one person have the copy and host? For example, I want to play with family online, but the difference between $10 and $50 is significant.

For remote play (playing with anyone who isn't in the same room) you have a few options.

Use screen sharing - As long as they can see your screen, you're good. So you could start the game and screen share with friends using Zoom or Google Meet. Zoom works a bit better in my experience. I added steps before for setting that up below.

Use remote games - If they buy a copy of the game (on Steam or consoles) they can enter your room code and stream the game to whatever platform they're on. We did this so people don't have to mess with Zoom. And watching the clips on your tv is much better than watching them over Zoom.

So yeah, Zoom is free and easy. If you want to skip screen sharing then have them pick up a copy.

How to Play
  • On the main menu select Play. Select your game mode.
  • On the next screen you can choose your options. Once you're set up, press Start Game.
  • On the waiting screen you will be given a room code.
  • On any internet connected device (your phone, a laptop, ipad, etc) head to http://rifftrax.games/
  • On the website, enter your name and the room code you see on your PC/Mac.
  • Share your room code with your friends. They can join locally or remotely. NOTE: There is no public lobby or matchmaking system in the game. Players cannot join your game unless you share your code.
  • You can play single player, two players (with a computer controlled bot), or 3-6 players (bot is optional).
  • Once everyone has connected and logged in, select Start Game.
  • To play the game you enter text on the website and watch the clips playback on your PC/Mac.

How to Join a Remote Game
  • To join a game you need a room code. These can be shared by a friend or streamers.
  • Once you have their code, select Join on the main menu. Enter the room code. Then select Join Game.
  • Wait a moment and you will be connected. If you have a mic connected voice chat will start.
  • On any internet connected device (your phone, a laptop, ipad, etc) head to http://rifftrax.games/

Playing Remote with Zoom
  • Open RiffTrax: The Game
  • Open Zoom and start a new meeting.
  • Invite players to your meeting.
  • Once everyone has joined, click Share Screen.
  • Select your desktop (or just the RiffTrax window) and make sure "Share Sound" and "Optimize for Video Clip" (in the lower left corner) are selected.
