Is being one-shotted normal?

Had 445 armor, 454 health.

Met Huge charles and he yells, instant death. Didn't hit the armor

Quite new to the game, so not sure if this is how it should work

if any part of your person is missing armor and your opponent hits a crit on that part it could insta kill from my experience i always go for head shots and can sometimes get an insta decap even when my opponent had 1k health remaining. (im a barbarian class.)

Guess could be? Was playing a race that can't wear helmets.
But didn't say crit, so was quite confused and it was a shout.

As it's a yell, I'm going to guess it was a sonic attack of some type. It's possible to do a huge amount of sonic damage when you're stacking charisma, taunt mastery (+60% dmg on taunt-like abilities) and forked tongue (+50% sonic damage). It's likely this hit your unprotected area and did enough damage to one hit.

If you want to mostly ignore this, invest in survival and get 5/5 sonic protection for 60% dmg reduction, or play the insect/alien looking race that has natural 75% natural protection.

When i am blasted to pieces from full health its always a sonic attack

I think it does to much damage as i had a lot of health for my level and its happened multiple times. Oone thing so far thats felt unfair

Bards are unironically, most likely the strongest class in this game given that their main damage move "power chord" is spammable as long as you have Essence, your sonic attacks take away peoples essence by 40-60% of the damage you do (i forget which one) as well if you get disabled from using skills your melee on the guitar stacks off of CHA. Not as well as a warrior but it still hits hard. If you dont specifically build against bards, like bringing disables (lightning spells, stuns etc) or something like repugnus which lowers CHA by 20. They are general nuisances which are hard to be dealt with.
