just not that simple! Unfortunately there is way more to speeding up combat than just increasing the animation speed. There are many timings involved in each turn, each specific combat move and so on. That's just the speed of the game - I still believe it's way faster than many other turn based games you might play.
What I usually find is if I'm getting a bit frustrated / bored with a later stage long battle, take a break, come back fresh in a few hours or the next day, just so it becomes less of a slog. I kind of designed the game to be played in bite sized bits, like the old Flash days.
