I remember reading multiplayer was planned. I have this game on my wishlist and keep checking in on it to see if it comes. Can someone tell me if its still due and if there's any indication for when? I'd buy this game in an instant if I could play against other players

It's on their roadmap for future content, so yes, a viable future option. Likely to be on a Christmas sale. You could buy now to get familiar with the gameplay.......

Even when multiplayer is added COOP is the focus, PvP is likely last if its added.

Don´t hope too much. If you look at the roadmap, there are some other feature which are going to be implemented first. I don´t expect mulitplayer within the next 2 years.
