I am not sure how Bundeswehr was using Abrams in 1985 either. Anyways if the game happens in 1985 scenario then Leopard 2A4 would suffice for Bundeswehr or Nato forces :)
"the Leopard 2A4 was indeed used by NATO forces during 1985. The Leopard 2A4 is a German-made main battle tank that was introduced in the late 1970s. It became the standard variant of the Leopard 2 series and was widely exported to several NATO member countries.
By the mid-1980s, several NATO countries had adopted the Leopard 2A4 as their main battle tank, including Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Belgium, and Turkey. These tanks were integrated into the armored forces of their respective nations and formed a significant part of NATO's armored capabilities during that time.
The Leopard 2A4 offered advanced features such as improved armor protection, a powerful 120mm smoothbore gun, and enhanced mobility. Its introduction represented a significant advancement in NATO's armored warfare capabilities, providing a highly capable and modern main battle tank."
Abrams is in the game due to its use by the US Army in 1985. The current theater is set in the "Fulda Gap" and features US, East Germany, and (soon) USSR and West Germany.
As for Leopards, check out the roadmap and you may see something you like: https://gunnerheatpc.com/news/articles/ghpc-early-access-roadmap
Since I've known the game it's been a case of "when it's done" for roadmap items to be ready and presentable, no promises of dates of completion to avoid disappointing customers if should they fall behind on progress.
They are a small team of developers and around half are part time/contracted from my understanding. So I can understand why they would take this approach to announcing progress when it's ready.
As hinted on the previous livestream, items 1 & 2 on the roadmap are completed but still may be worked on further in future, items 3 & 4 are heavily WIP and is their current focus.
