Think I'll give this game a miss for now.
The ‘long road’ mission is a good solo M1 mission to work on basics as there are no other friendly to rush you. You can go at your own pace.
Hey, I'd recommend getting to know your tanks in Grafenwoehr first. Then play with NATO tanks, here is a bunch of rather easy missions to get started, first on point Alpha:
- Long Range (easiest mission in the game, very good to learn M60A3 gunnery)
- Blind Buffalo (Blue side)
- Fog of War
- Alternate Route (Blue)
- Night Bane (Blue)
Then on Fulda Outskirts:
- Superior Firepower (one of the few really easy Red missions)
- Target Tango (quite easy once used to the T-72)
North Fields:
- Morning Misery
- Advance Guard
- Casual Cleanup
- Replen Reaper (rather fair mission and good if you use illum flares right)
Fulda Gap legacy:
- MBT duel (blue side)
- M60A3 solo hunt (hard mission but really good at teaching positioning and scanning)
You can also start a NATO campaign and refresh the mission list by clicking on load (after having saved) and only do Recon in Force and Raid missions (Raid missions being the easiest of the two), they are quite easy and will teach you to scan for contacts often.
Hope this helps and remember Grafenwoehr tank range is your best friend otherwise.
You need to fire as fast as you can and you should not miss. You need to use the hill for cover and only advance until you can fire over it.
This is reflective of IRL plans for NATO defence where NATO expected their tank force to be vastly outnumbered.
Count me in on this. I didn't see any kind of tutorial so I went into the NATO missions. Picked the first one in the list thinking it would start out slow as a tutorial, whatever it was, and got the crap shot out of me by stuff I couldn't see. Never saw a thing to shoot at optically, and couldn't figure out how to activate any kind of thermal sights (M60), and straight up got deleted. I know it's early access and still in development, but I seriously hope that they add a tutorial to the final product.
Do not try to move forward to the enemy from the gunners seat - you will die every time and not even see what killed you.
also that mission is very hard.
Tried again. And again. And... realized that the 1st mission in the list maybe is not the easiest one. Searched this forum a bit a found a few less challenging, beginner friendly missions to learn the basics. All's well now. :)
Like "1 M1 vs 1 T55" or "1 TOW vs 2 BMP".
Choose a certain map, choose random starting positions, have some easy fun. For me the game is not fun right now. (I have little time and zero motivation to practice scripted missions over and over again until I'm able to succeed ...)
eventually it clicks tho. your map is your friend at the mission start but then experience tells you when to be ready for combat and what direction to be looking.
